Tube amps that kick ass?
Here's another vote for the Cary 120S. It is totally kick-ass in my system (replaced the NuForce Ref 9V2 SE). In my view it sounds better from bottom to top and it's especially kick-ass in the BASS! That said, it is not as quiet electrically or me...
Headphones for setting VTA?
Wow... that's some system you have put together! All those tubes must be entrancing. I always love it when I run across someone who is even more "out-there" than me, if you know what I mean. :)I used to know one guy who liked to set up his expensi...
Why buy cheap speakers??
On the other hand, I can recall getting really great sound from a cheap Sony cassette deck and a cheapish turntable (AR with MMT arm and Monster Alpha MC cart) through Acoustat 2+2s with custom-built tube servo-charge amplifiers. So in my view, the...
Speaker placement: Any difference for cd or vinyl?
Good question... and the answer should be that the best speaker placement will serve either source well. But all sources are not equal (as you may have found). Typically, the sound from vinyl will differ from CD mostly in the highs, where vinyl is ...
Why buy cheap speakers??
Steven... buy something like a ClearAudio Virtuoso Wood cartridge for that turntable of yours and then we'll talk.Happy Listening!
Poor BASS with Dynavector XX2 +Sunilda + AudioNote
I second what Bob said about the VTA... You'll know it when you hit "the spot."
Anyone Familiar With These Infinity QLS 1s?
I am familiar with the speakers and used to own the Quantum 3's back in the day. From my perspective they are cool speakers and if you could get them for a reasonable price they might be worth playing around with... However, for the guy's starting ...
Can you Analyze this?
Yeah, Bobf, this is exactly the kind of thing I think about when I buy a 30-day prescription for a drug that costs $150 and then you see the generic (let's take Ambien for example) that costs $15. But since I take the drug, I can't really lose sle...
Bass, more or less?
Wavetrader, oh yeah... I almost forgot about my pipe-organ recordings that I never play... not because my systems won't do them justice... just because that type of music doesn't generally thrill me. But if that's your thing, hey, go for it! BTW, ...
Bass, more or less?
I have been through a lot of systems, heard a lot of systems, and currently have 3 systems set up in my home. Having decent bass is important to me, I can't deny that. But I have found it is the midrange and high frequencies that keep me captivate...
Magnepan vs Ohm/Walsh ?
Mlsstl,I know what you mean about the room size. I'll be real curious to see if I can get the Maggies to strut their stuff like I know they can. I have a couple of tricks up my sleeve. Originally, I was going to go with the MG-12 because I'm 99.9 ...
Magnepan vs Ohm/Walsh ?
Mlsstl,Your point is well taken. But recently, I did have a pair of the older MG .5QR in that room (same panel size as the MG-12QR). With the QR tweeters inboard, the presentation was simply magical, although a bit truncated in the bass. I think t...
Magnepan vs Ohm/Walsh ?
Hi Guys,Thanks for your thoughts, I appreciate it.I have a pair of the Magnepan 1.6QR's on order that should be arriving next week... for my taste, it is probably the right decision... an intimate sounding system for a smaller room (11 x 14), like...
Room EQ
That's cool... you're going to objectively evaluate the results from a subjective viewpoint.Given that no room is "perfect" and that most have serious flaws, there is a likely benefit to EQ... it just might not turn out to be the curve you think i...
Mellencamp on Music Business
Greed is definitely the issue and the largest problem in the great USA... It's a shame that people can be bought and sold so easily, but unfortunately, money is the fuel of the capitalist machine. Now where's my bonus???
