Music Hall cd-25 or Rega planet 2000
TAS magazine raved about a Rotel player (I forget the number) that is only about $700 new. You should look into it as it held it's own pretty well against a $5500 Electrocompaniet player.
Can you ever go back and be happy?
I used to own Quad 57 and Maggie 1.6 and moved to JM Reynaud Trentes and now own Audio Note AN E. I prefer the dynamic presentation of a quality box speaker. My AN-Es throw a huge soundstage with beautiful midrange that is very natural, also my 18...
Best system for jazz?
I really enjoy my Audio Note system on jazz. It has a beautiful open and natural tone that consistantly reminds me of live music, especially the way high notes 'cut' through the other instruments but maintain musical identity. Percussion instrumen...
Cary SLI-80 vs Manley Stingray
FWIW I drove Maggie 1.6s successfully with a Manley Stingray. I agree it did have a vibrant and punchy quality with this difficult load. It had beautiful tone as well.
best CDR disc to buy as present
thanks... you guys are very helpful.Phil
Good percussion
I agree with Billy Cobham Spectrum and Crosswinds too. Both are excellent albums from the 70s.I got Billy's autograph in the mid 70s. He was awesome in concert, you could not even see his hands move they were so fast.
Good percussion
I second Trilok Gurtu, the album he made with Bobby Miles is terrific and one of the best recordings I have heard. Gurtu plays percussion and Miles plays keyboard. The music is a mix of alternative and world with an emphasis on percussion and synt...
Any opinions on Audiomat Amps?
I considered buying an Audiomat amp because they are supposed to be quite good but decided against it because of a reported incident of the importer. The word used by my friend was not repeatable here...I would go with an Audio Note Soro SE integr...
pls recommend some "entry level" tube amp options?
Rogue 120 monoblocks are real nice and about $1500 used. They have 120 watts...
Is it advisable to have an all tube system?
the days of tubes sounding 'tubey' are long over. My integrated amp that I bought for $1300 is so neutral that most would not be able to tell if it was tube or solid state based on tonal balance
Who needs spellcheck?
with my dyslexia it looks normal :^)
Mac 6900 vs. Rowland Concerto Int. vs. MF KW 500
FWIW...I have not heard the Rowland Concerto but the Concentra II instead which I think is beautiful sounding though a little dry and in the same home, though with different speakers - B&W 802D instead of B&W N803, I heard the KW500 which ...

Rsbeck,I do believe in trying to recreate the volume of the actual event which to me is pretty loud as I often listen to rock/alternative music.I remember one of the magazines mentioning the same thing about N803s being limited in volume...I give ...
buying today,need your thoughts
My buddy had N803 with several different amps, the best being Rowland, but every time he turned it up the speaker sounded strained. His room is very big, about 20 x 30 with a very high ceiling so I am sure that is part of it...He now has 802D and ...

The N803's do not play especially loud and need a ton of power to do their best 200-300 watts to begin with IMO.
