Anybody with some thoughts on Hafler amps Hafler amps are a major bargain on the used market and deliver very good sound quality for the money. I have owned the DH200 and the PRO 500, both delivering an impressive sound. The PRO 500 is essentially a DH500 but with upgraded parts. Lots of ...
Class D amps? Yes, look at the Wyred 4 Sound amps.
This may sound a bit silly but why are so many Mich4t, you are correct that a sale of a preamp can be the result of wanting the new and improved model. To this day I can't understand why the AR reference system I listened to did not move me. I asked the dealer to try a different CD with no imp...
This may sound a bit silly but why are so many Tomcy6, I think your post nailed it and believe what you said covers most all what I think is true when it comes to buying and selling.
Anyone compared 6922 Sovtek & Electro-Harmonix I think the Electro Hamonix 6922 tubes sounded pretty darn good for the price. But in a preamp that operates in pure Class A, they don't last very long and that is their achilles heel.
This may sound a bit silly but why are so many Ok its a reference preamp at least that is the label given to it by Audio Research. Doesn't mean that it is leaps and bounds better than what it replaced. Maybe there was no improvement at all and if there was, maybe it was just marginal and resol...
How does one get off the merry-go-round? Isochronism, I don't think Pubul57 was on the merry go round to that degree anyway, mostly active in the forums. Case in point, I believe this thread was one of the last he participated in. As far as getting off the merry-go-round, we all will eve...
How does one get off the merry-go-round? I'm afraid that I am the bearer of horrible news. Pubul57 has passed away. I just recently learned of this via a thread started 4/18/12 under the category of "best of" in the Audiogon forums. He has been a active member of this audio community for...
Budget vacuum tube preamp? Actually the Norh ACA-2B is made in Thailand not Taiwan, sorry for the mistake. It goes back to what Unsound & Foster 9 said, make sure that it can match up (impedance) with your power amp before purchasing.
Budget vacuum tube preamp? Go to their website & check out the Norh ACA-2B tube preamp. It uses two 6DJ8 tubes and operates in pure Class A. I have had a few of the budget preamps mentioned above (like the AES) but the Norh performs far above its retail price. I owned o...
Class A amps or Class D??: Which sounds better?? Which is really better, it is like comparing apples to oranges and ultimately depends on what type of music you generally listen to, personal tastes and power requirements. I have heard excellent sound quality from both. Just because Class D is an...
How does one get off the merry-go-round? Mrtennis, good one, I think you have spoken from the heart as your statement is consistant with most all of your posts. Well done!Cdc, I have done just that and my room of choice was the bathroom. Just rig it to start playing music everytime you f...
Please Recommend a Low Gain Solid State Amp ARC Honestly, Audio Research in my opinion has not produced a solid state amplifier that can compete with the McCormack's soundstaging & musicality except for the AR 100.2 which has been tauted as one of their best solid state amps. Their forte ha...
Pass amp vs McCormack with Silver/Gold upgrades... I know it has been discussed before as to the Mccormack DNA .5 versus the DNA 1 but honestly after owning both I thought they sonically sounded the same accept I would give the DNA 1 the final nod because of its power and like Chris said, you will...
Pass amp vs McCormack with Silver/Gold upgrades... Sorry River251, it was not my intention to redirect this thread but jmcgrogan2 mentioned the economy previously and got me going.I could not find the DNA 0.5 with upgrades only the deluxe model. It has probably already been sold as items are autom... |
