Help me pick a turntable set up
Hi,you will need a decent phono stage to start with, so that leaves you with 1500$-1700$ for a table/arm/cartridge.My suggestion would be to go for MM cartridge (100-200$) and benefit from a better turntable.Plenty to choose: Rega, Clearaudio, , F...

How do tell when my stylus is too much worn?
Hi,example from my previous ZYX is that tips can last over 2,000hrs, depending from manufacturer. Actually the suspension went first. For ZYX end of life means misstracking, plus some loss of sparkle. Good cartridges have great HF extension so som...
So I switched from XLR cables...
Hi,if your equipment is balanced from input to output then XLR will most probably sound better, as it will have less noise and more dynamics. XLR connection does not translate to fully balanced design.
Buy a $40,000 10 year old amp for $4,000 or new amp for same money?
Hi,@luxmancl38, my intention was not to check your maths but to state that not all amps depreciate that fast. AVR's do because most work in digital domain they are plentiful-they are a bad investment, excellent tube and ss are not.Generally amps d...
Buy a $40,000 10 year old amp for $4,000 or new amp for same money?
Hi,@luxmancl38as we discuss about amplifiers this is 38% compared to original price for a model made back in 1999 (22+ years) and not 10%. As i recall its srp was $9,999 and not $12,000 which raises the percentage to 45% (logical).
Turntable cover
Hi,all TT’s sound best with dust covers removed. Take it off when in listening session and refit it afterwards. Simple as that. My DPS does not even have hinges.

Dedicated Circuit
Hi,agree with @lowrider57 unless you have hungry power amp one line is fine. Secret is to have your components on same phase.
Anyone have this turntable issue?
Hi,just an idea that the optical encoder is causing the noise, and most probably needs attention, check that all its connections are firm on the sub board and then to the main board . I am not sure that optical encoders when at min mute the signal...

Hi,@vinny55, no it does not, and not even better than some vintage DD.But it is good.
Total cost of ownership - how to reduce it
Hi,generally tube gear is less sensitive to major repairs, is easier and less costly to upgrade, as long as it follows a relatively simple design/construction. You have to change tubes regularly though to have it in perfect shape. Solid state gene...
