Can we finally put Reel to Reel out of its misery? Put it to rest people.
Hi,far from dead, most expensive media yes but not difficult to repair, not impossible to find spares not difficult to calibrate and better sounding than any other tape format, and better looking also!
B&W Matrix 801 Series 2 speakers
Hi cheriszm, you will find that MCA2 is not enough even though rated at 200w (small power supply), but all depends on the size of your listening room. My approach with this speaker would be more elitist and seek for a better power amp and later for...
B&W Matrix 801 Series 2 speakers
Hi,nice buy. Make sure that you drive them with good quality solid state (150W-200W), and bi-wired. Bass alignment filter will be a worthwhile upgrade. Budget conscious with these speakers is a contradiction if you want much better quality.
How do you know when tubes are done?
Hi,tubes are towards or end of life when dynamics are gone. Preamp tubes may produce funny noises or extra hiss sound, power tubes will lack power to drive efficiently. If in doubt get or borrow a good tube tester and check before rather than sorr...
Tonearms: Ripoff?
Hi,you pay, you get, it has always been like that and always be. How better depends from the rest of the chain, and your ears. Please also consider reselling prices and there you have the complete picture. On the other hand no bad products exist n...
Ticks Pops and Thumps from only one Channel
Hi,check cartridge pin connection, check tonearm connection, check alignment again.
Class A Solid State Sound
Hi,unless V-fet is used, Mosfet always sounded better to me compared to bi-polar.
Just picked up three new cartridges to play on a KD 500 with Grace 707 with a Shure M75ED.
Hi analogvm15,all three of them will be fine mechanically suited to 707.Sonically the Shure will be bright, the Orofon inoffensive and the Empire a better match (consider that 707 is a lively arm).
Importance of power cable for Turntable?
Hi, TT power supply (especially if it is an outboard one) will most likely benefit from a better quality mains cable and material, so yes it sounds better in many ways.
what is the best way to clean a rubber TT record mat.
Hi,green soap and lukewarm tap water, then rinse with distilled water, dry well with microfiber, nothing more needed.
Tube rolling Question
Hi geofkait, most probably and ideally they should sound better but if synergy comes to the mix they will probably don't. As for golden ear status please be open minded and open eared, no biases in audio, try, try, try and try. The best example is...
Platter wobble
leemaze, do not bother with other mat than rubber, it is fine (rubber takes shape easier and suits your tt fine). You will benefit a worthwhile improvement by going to an upmarket tt.
Forever turntable under $2000
Hi primarist,FunkFirm FlamencaRega RP6VPI Scoutor any used tt in 5-6K league
Turntable Mat question
Hi rocky1313,with your turntables Herbie's, funkfirm mat would be ok.
Platter wobble
Nearly all aluminum type platters at this price point (due to thickness) suffer mostly the same. A bearing would not produce wobble but noise. SLBD20 does not have an acrylic platter. If mat does not sit properly on platter then platter has an issue.
