Best Integrated Amp for Linn Tukans
A couple of questions related to the suggestions above. The Naim Naitt is an intruiging option, but I wonder how people generally get around the interconnect problem (i.e. Naims proprietary plugs). Also, in general, does the 30 wpc of the Naitt pr...
Pass Labs Aleph Amps and Tube Preamps
I used an Aleph 3 with a Rogue 66 preamp with good success. I spoke with Mark Obrien at Rogue, and although the Aleph has a low input impedence, the 10:1 rule applied with the Rogue and was therefore an acceptable match.
High End Myth Glossary.
Bravo Bomarc!! That's one element that certainly comes into play in this playworld!!! But I must say, I love it when the results are obvious!
Harbeth C7- Tube or solid state power?

Taste of Brazil.
Wow!!! Velosso was great in his solo in the movie "Frieda". I too would like to know which of his albums to get. Can anyone offer experienced advise?
Tube amp for Merlin TSM.
A lot of people like the Berning ZH-270 with these speakers. Personally, I thought that the amp was too harsh in the upper midrange, though David Berning said it was more like to revealing of the attributes of digital sources. Nevertheless, there ...
The heat of tubes...
You gotta figure that heating up the closet won't make the tubes all that much hotter. On their surface they are so much hotter than ambient, that a warmer ambient won't change the surface temp all that much. A vented closet is a good idea though....
Atlantis Reference racks - opinions?
I haven't owned any really expensive high-end racks, but I do own the Reference 5, and I think it is a great stand. Really massive and sturdy, nice shelves (rosewood color, no real grain though), just very solid. Hollywood Audio down in Florida ca...
Cary 308 or Njoe Tjoeb 4000?
I've had the Cary 308, and it is a nice warm-sounding CDP, slightly emphasized in the midrange, which provides more spatial presence in my opinion. I have no advise on the choice presented above, but wonder why not consider the Jolida JD-100 CDP a...
Heads up for earwax.
Hydrogen peroxide dissolves ear wax! It's a unique experience to say the least. You drop in several drops of hydrogen peroxide in your ear with your head lying sideways on a pillow. After a few seconds you'll hear the bubbling reaction, then you w...
What does "Sounds too Hifi" mean???
I was under the impression that "Hifi" is a vestage of a GOOD descriptor, a complimentary term used in the past, if not the present. Since when did high fidelity come to mean something negative? (Perhaps I missed the backlash to the 80's during my...
Harbeth P3es-2 + Rel strata or Harbeth P7es-s?
I most recently hooked up my Compact 7ES-2's to a PS Audio HCA2, and I have heard them with a Plinius 102. I think the solid state amp really controls the bass on these speakers, and I don't feel a pressing need for a sub, although I don't think i...
Quad 12L, PMC TB2, or Harbeth Compact 7ES-2?
I know this isn't entirely helpful, since I didn't do the comparison, but I absolutely love my Harbeth Compact 7ES-2. I first heard them at CES with a Plinius 102 amp, and they took my breath away on female vocal. I've heard them at home with both...
Channel Islands Audio Experience
Hi Viggen. A related question for the audiophilia is: How many of you have used (or found the need for) an upstream anti-jitter device on the CI DAC? I'm getting mixed messages about what this DAC does. I've been told it does reclocking. Wouldn't ...
JMLAB, QUAD OR THIEL.?
Emily - no offense, but are you really serious about this open-ended question? I suggest that you augment your thread again if you want advise. What are your other system components? What type of music do you enjoy, and what is most important to y...
