Pass Labs x250.8 vs tube amps
6 hours is surprising to me. I’ve spoken to Kent at Pass. The Mosfets perform to their specs when they reach 50 degrees Celsius. That’s about 125 F. If you leave the switch on on the back I think the unit warms up in a little over an hour. But now...
How do I pay?
Buy them in person or don’t buy them at all.
As much as I try, I just don't get it........
You can't audition components on Youtube or in dealer showrooms. And it's fun to go crazy at an audio conference having heard that next, great thing that whets your appetite. But you're right--all of our systems are snowflakes, each different. Add...
Have you changed your mind about a brand? Was it you, or them?
@tatyana69 Agree with you about the difference between B&W d2 and d3. I’ve had both.My first time out I thought my Marantz 8001 amp was the bee’s knees. But then my McIntosh 6700 integrated made short work of the Marantz. Now, my Pass Labs has...
New Tinnitus study and possible treatment (via Science Daily)
Thanks for this info.  Let’s hope trials continue to be successful and clinics open in the states. This ringing is a PIA. The other treatment I read about was literally destroying part of your brain. I did my own version of that as a teen and can’...
Streaming for beginner
The other streaming option not mentioned so far is Amazon Music HD, which is cheaper than Tidal and Qobuz and is supposed to have higher resolution. I was scared off of Qobuz by reports of terrible customer service. It sounds like folks on here ha...
Solitary listener
I used to get very excited about sharing my system with friends. I’d be on an audio high and want to share the sound of a new amp, new speakers, amazing sound stage, or a new DAC. For all but one person, the response was always, “I don’t hear the ...
Do you really use the formula for speaker placement?
@tvad Thanks--I'm learning things all the time, in this case, the effect of toeing with the "cross point" of the speakers in front or behind me. Thanks. And now it looks like I need to play with tilting the speakers. Thanks. @tomic601 Interesting ...
Do you really use the formula for speaker placement?
@tvad I think my speakers only create one sweet spot. How do you get multiple sweet spots or a "wide" sweet spot?
Do you really use the formula for speaker placement?
@millercarbon That's right. You start with the left speaker and find where the bass sounds the best. I did it with the right speaker unplugged. My surprise (shouldn't have been) was that there was a place because of the dimensions of the room wher...
Who puts their speakers right up against the back wall and why?
The venerable Bose 901s.Otherwise, room constraints often keep the speakers too close to the walls. If only we all had man/woman caves.
Any RME ADI-2 DAC FS owners here?
BTW, the RME DAC is fabulous. Although I've not run it head-to-head with a much more expensive DAC.
Any RME ADI-2 DAC FS owners here?
The myriad of options is a blessing and a curse. How do you prefer your Q? How about the QA? Sharp or NOS? WTF? I would love to find some user groups that discuss the effect of the parameters on the audio. Some parameters seem to make little diffe...
Do you really use the formula for speaker placement?
@millercarbon The youtube setup had the speakers equidistant. Frankly, it never occurred to me before the Sumiko Method that speakers would be anything other than equidistant from the listener--the normal equilateral triangle rule. And the youtube...
Do you really use the formula for speaker placement?
Thanks for all of your input. I first watched and went by the advice provided in the Youtube video. It was a different approach in that it asked you to start with the speakers literally next to you and move them to the wall. The wisdom is that the...
