Tube integrated with real bass. Does it exist? When you talk about speed, check out the Japanese tube amps. Leben, Air Tight, Zanden to name a few. They are expensive though. Another brand which has great rhythm and dynamics is Trafomatic Audio. They dont sacrifice resolution or tonality but t...
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ... Oregonpapa, I am waiting for people who are current users of bigger and more expensive cartridges to try it and share their opinions. I have personally experienced it but lets see how many more come up with such experiences. It is interesting that...
how can I make the back wall transparent? Williewonka, thats some really nice effort you have been putting in.Give the ASI Liveline resonators a try. They essentially do exactly what you are trying to achieve, they make the room disappear! And they are extremely small in size, like a matc...
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ... 100 ohms is minimum, in my experience it loads the cart down a bit too much. Start with 130 ohms, you may need loading values up to 250 ohms if your capacitance is very low. You can go up to 600 ohms if you can increase capacitance.
Tube integrated with real bass. Does it exist? Ayon Triton is a great suggestion for tube amps with speed and bass. There are many others but typically tube amps which try to do too well in bass lacks the magic in the mids and highs. Many examples exist. So you probably need to find a good tube...
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ... BTW, Audio Technica recommends a "minimum" of 100 ohms for loading the ART9. If the phonostage is upto the task, a 400 ohm loading is well within the range.
Rega RP8 and alternatives in $3000-4000 range Rega RP8 is a no brainer, to put it simply. If you want to look at something thats seriously more interesting, check out the Jean Nantais Lenco or Garrard 401 rebuilds. They are as quite as the Rega and way more dynamic and fun:http://www.idler-wh...
Recs for solid state integrated, $2-3,000 range I have been running a pair of Tannoy Turnberry SE for the last 4 years. Have tried various amplification. If you want to keep it simple and amazing, get a Naim Nait 5i-2. I had it. It will make your Tannoy sing and dance with amazing dynamic range...
Pani ... New ART-9 up and running ... Arm matching shouldn't be an issue at all. It is a typical medium compliance cartridge just like the oc9, Lyra and the likes. Should work with most of the medium mass tonearms. The Pro-ject is also one of them.
Top ten DD turntables of all time? Hi Peter,Your designs are interesting. In the world of direct drives there are few of these usual suspects which include the SP10, DP80, Yamaha GT-2000x, Kenwood L-07d and JVC TT101 to name a few. Since you have been working on DD models, whats yo...
Top ten DD turntables of all time? Reviving this old thread. I am looking for a direct drive turntable for my system. I already have a TJN Reference Lenco. The DD will be to add some variety. Morever I want to test the potential of a good DD. Between a Technics SP-10 MK2 with Obsid...
MC Cartridges Under $1,000 Audio Technica OC9 Mk3. I prefer it to 103 and 103r especially on TTs like VPI which doesnt have a high mass tonearm. OC9 is a lot more refined and transparent than 103
