Does anyone know about Mana tables? You might try the Pink Fish Media site - Mana was big in the UK, and a lot of the Linn/Naim crowd swore by it for a long time. They'll tease you for even mentioning Mana (there was bad bad blood there), but you'll get a forthright answer.-Richard
phono stage options for Lyra Cartridges I use a K&K "Maxxed-Out" phono stage with my Skala (and an Argo before), and am quite pleased - I've compared it with several more expensive phono stages, and have never found it to be lacking in any performance parameter, especially consideri...
Portishead on vinyl I think all the Portishead LPs are pretty decent sounding, in that highly processed, I've spent a LOT of time on ProTools kind of way. I think Live at Roseland would probably be my pick of the bunch sonically. -Richard
Graham Phantom vs Triplaner Mike,Talk to Dan_ed...he's already there with his TP (and a braver man than I).-Richard
Suggestions how to repair these If they're stuck, I would spray them lightly with a tiny amount of silicone based lubricant first before I got out the contact spray, especially if the shafts of the pots are plastic. Many plastic shafted potentiometers will literally melt from ex...
Which MoFi and MoFi UHQR LPs? I simply avoid all the MFSLs. IMHO, you're much better off with a good original pressing 99% of the time, both musically and sonically. And, no I haven't heard them all - but then again I believe my sampling over the years of half-speeds, "super-d...
Speed problems with Pro-Ject Debut III I disagree - whether the motor runs at 16 volts or 160 volts, it's an AC motor (at least according to their website) - half the voltage isn't going to change anything - half the normal voltage might cause the motor to not start, but it's the FREQU...
Speed problems with Pro-Ject Debut III I would agree, except the poster notes the speed was too slow when he first tried it - if anything, it should have been too fast, since a 50Hz pulley would have to be larger than a 60Hz pulley (given the differing line frequencies). He then states...
Speed problems with Pro-Ject Debut III It appears the table's power supply is configured for either European or US mains voltages - with a nominal output of 16 volts AC, which one would guess drives an AC synchronous motor directly. AC synchronous motors derive their speed based upon f...
Power cords for Dell computer and Mackie speakers Since the Dell uses a big, noisy switch-mode PS, I don't think there's much of a point in spending good money on a power cord for it - use whatever came in the box. As for the Mackie powered speakers the power cord should be the last of your conce...
Recommend speakers for a restaurant sound system Agreed about the JBL Aeon series - blech. I've heard several rooms with architectural speaker products from both Genelec (the AIC25 and AIW 25/26 - both are active and bypass amplification requirements) and EAW whose SMS surface mount speakers are...
Need help finding cause of hum Dan,Most likely a power supply cap, especially given that its onset has been slow and insidious. Time to open the hood and check for bulges and leaks; I agree with Al on this and am uncertain why it would only affect one channel. FWIW, I'm a stron...

Anyone modify the K&K phono stage? Pedrillo,If you haven't installed the Lundahl LL1931 SUTs, the Cardas caps or the Audio-Note tantalum resistor upgrades in your unit, I suppose that would be an excellent starting point. As Dan advises, search through the K&K asylum archives -...
Tube question for Berning EA-230 amp owners... I've found the 12AT7 input tubes actually make more of a sonic difference than the 6SN7, with the 6JN6 output tubes really having very little sonic impact after trying RCAs, Sylvanias and Amperxes. I recall having tried some 5692, but it has been ... |
