Amp or blocks for Total Eclipse Agreed - I drive my Total Eclipse with a 100 watt Berning, and I'm quite pleased. While I can get away with 10 watts (convincingly depending on the output tube), it takes around 50wpc and up to really gets them singing. YMMV.-Richard

Comments on Dire Straits Re-mastered LPs? Syntax,You might want to check your facts - the first three or four are most certainly analog through and through. I can't speak to the quality of the most recent reissues.
Niskayuna NY Yes. | |
Todays new vinyl LP's better than LP's 40 yrs ago? In my experience, most likely not. While many jazz and classical reissues score points based solely on scarcity and condition, from a purely sonic standpoint, I'd say the original is generally superior. However, from a cost/benefit point of view, ...
Grand Prix versus Stillpoints Thanks! While I could have most likely surmised your response simply based upon the materials used in the differing support systems, it was good to have first-hand validation. Enjoy!-Richard
Grand Prix versus Stillpoints Albert,Could you expand further on your personal impressions of each stand's relative strengths and weaknesses in the context of your system, and why, ultimately, you opted for the Stillpoints vs. the GPA? I ask not to make you write a short treat...
sweep tubes and audio application? The Berning 2100 and the Counterpoint SA4 both used the now ridiculously expensive 6LF6 (though it is a very nice output tube). Expect $80-$100 per tube for NOS; you have ham operators to thank for the price.-Richard
Needle Cleaning I too use a small fine-chisel tip artists brush for general dustball removal after every side. In addition, I also use the Magic Eraser (ME) on a toothpick cut into a wedge shape which is excellent for scrubbing the diamond sides. The ME is an exc...
what to keep analoge system perfect working? An extremely bright illumination source for doing cartridge alignment. I use a goose neck laboratory fiber optic illuminator which is a delight - the Dolan Jenner Model 190 Fiber Lite. Indispensable. The other thing you need is patience. Lots of pa...
Name your lame duck artist........ I always reply to this question with the same answer:Barbra Streisand - talentless, nasal, flat, and couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. Not a good actor either.& Neil Diamond - wrote some good tunes, but can't sing to save his life - his voice...
Vinyl "bleed through"- need set-up advice This is simple pre-echo. Nothing is wrong with your setup. Most pure analog recordings exhibit this to some degree or another. The magnetic signal on the tape "bleeds" onto the adjoining section when the tape is spooled onto the reel and they over...
returning vinyl for warpage? Kurt,The vinyl of TCV is quite good - I don't own the CD but it is interesting to note that the free MP3 download card included with the LP proudly proclaims that the high bit rate transfer is derived from the vinyl master.I like the LP's sonics -...
Mylar tape on Teres has lots of static. Doug,Nope - I rely purely on faith ;-)There is a great need for a sarcasm font, BTW.My only ground path is off the Triplanar's base. Personally, I never understood why one would want to ground the main bearing, but perhaps in certain schemes it co...
Mylar tape on Teres has lots of static. Rubber-soled shoes and the deep pile carpet don't have any conductive elements between them either, but I'll be damned if I don't get shocked every time I touch something that truly is grounded. Physics - amazing!!-Richard |
