Mylar tape on Teres has lots of static. Doug,Nope - I rely purely on faith ;-)There is a great need for a sarcasm font, BTW.My only ground path is off the Triplanar's base. Personally, I never understood why one would want to ground the main bearing, but perhaps in certain schemes it co...
Mylar tape on Teres has lots of static. Rubber-soled shoes and the deep pile carpet don't have any conductive elements between them either, but I'll be damned if I don't get shocked every time I touch something that truly is grounded. Physics - amazing!!-Richard
Speed strobe recommendation. Doug,I believe tolerances for mains frequency delivery here in the US is specified at +/-1%, translating to a .6Hz variation. My note above merely specified a .25Hz deviation (which is a lot, but does sometimes occur). I understand the principles ...
Speed strobe recommendation. There is a caveat here: in the case of a typical, single-phase synchronous AC motor connected to the mains supply (think lower-end Thorens, Rega, VPIs, AR, some Projects, etc) its speed is derived by the incoming mains frequency - 60Hz here in the...
Speed strobe recommendation. The best feature of the KAB is that the strobe is a 300Hz strobe light, and there are speed-designation numbers on the disc that are very easy to read while in operation. No more mesmerization trying to look at that single bar hopefully holding st...
New Lyra Delos Cartridge Mr. Carr,Excellent elucidation of the intricacies of cartridge loading; much appreciated and a "must-read" for everyone interested.-Richard
Slagle AVC Modules & Lightspeed Attenuator Huh, I missed this review too. I've been using the Slagle autoformers for some time now, and find them wonderful - transparent and unfailingly musical. One nice feature of an autoformer is that you can overcome the inherent problems of transformer...
Wish List For Vinyl Pressings I started a similar thread on the Asylum about six months ago. The question was, "What CDs need to be made into LPs"? Of course, extreme rarity counts, but the thread focused mainly on people's wish-lists for great music from the dark days of digi...
Phono stage for tube system - recommendations? Dan,Since our get together, I did both the Audio Note tantalum resistor upgrade, as well as a MOSFET upgrade on the CCS...if anyone out there with the K&K still uses the old Supertex part, switching to the IXYS part is a massive upgrade (all f...
Just when I thought digital could not match analog I agree with Bill. Completely.-Richard
Phono stage for tube system - recommendations? Bucketjr, the current model of the K&K uses a pair of 6H23P (the Russian 6922 equivalent). The differences in the basic vs. Maxxed-out K&K are rather significant, and the website illustrates the differences quite clearly. That said, I find...
For Basis TT owners does the VPI SDS work? While I'm sure the Allnic unit has many tubes and nickel-core transformers enclosed in a shiny fascia (I believe Brinkman has a similar device), this is by no means a guarantor of accurate motor control - personally, I'd prefer a substantial numbe...
Help. Wife says Teres 340 Is too bright. Have you played with cartridge loading?
Which inexpensive ic's cables worth checking out? I'd check out the Antipodes Audio Katipo - they're being auctioned off at a good price on a weekly basis. I'm liking what I'm hearing a lot with this cable in place, and I think it's my new high value leader in a crowded field. The usual disclaime...
Review: Tube Research Labs Dude Tube preamp Gallant,You exercise a very wise methodology I think more folks ought to follow. From my experience, gear that jumps out at you on first listen tends to become unlistenable over time; gear that leaves you initially wanting can become some of the m... |
