Best drink while listening to your rig?
Hi Blueranger, I'm not sure anyone is advocating drinking during each listening session ;-)
Listening room ceiling type?
I wouldn't go with a drop ceiling: Too much shaking around. If burlap is OK with you, I would go with Marco's suggestion: Use sound insulation (like what you were thinking about) between the joists up against the ceiling and leave an air space. An...
What Happens When You Die?
Isellstuff, with a name like yours, will you really keep the gear and the wives? From reading some of these other threads, I bet there are some folks who would like to give you their spouses right now. Why wait? ;-)
What Happens When You Die?
My family will probably not want it all. Fortunately, the local audiophile society helps members' families value and dispose of equipment when someone passes. It pays to have a will that includes specifics too!
Boy, am I bummed.
That is a bummer. When that happens to me, the worst part is that I go from a level of high excitement to a state of depression -- I'd rather the cheap Best Buy stuff not work since I'm never as excited about it to begin with. Hang in there! When ...
"Room Correction" what the H..?
That does seem like a strange "room correction". It assumes that rooms are bright and have linearly poor bass response, which is a very strange assumption. Bass issues usually peak or drop off at irregular intervals dependent on the room character...
A "Unique" Voice...
The first who came to mind is Mary Fahl -- was with the October Project and is now solo. Very low, unusual but haunting voice. Her "Other Side of Time" album is wonderful! It always finds it's way to the rotation, especially by my wife.More well k...
Wife approval factor?
I guess it's better to be lucky than good! I was very lucky in my marriage, including the "audio" part of it. I only spend what we can afford, so that helps. But what really makes the difference is that she loves to listen to the music. She turns ...
Who's got the best user name?
Albert, I just ran across this thread and you've got my eyes watering with laughter. Fantastic!I'd vote for "Clueless" -- it's a name I can relate to more often than not ;-) Special mention to Brainwater and Gumbydammit. Then there's Dennis the Men...
Why do I need a phono-pre???
All that plus many of the cartridges today have a lower output voltage than many of the popular ones from an earlier era. I'm not sure that some of the lower output moving coil cartridges would be adequately amplified with the built-in phono stage...
Anyone heard of Swan Lee?
Boa, it's a bit different, but it's really good. Thanks for the suggestion. (I think there's a bit of a Kate Bush influence as well as what you already mentioned)
Smelly softening woofer and midranges
It sounds like your midrange voice coil is shot or there is simply some dirt interfering with the voice coil. There should be no sound (I suspect that your midrange on the other side is quiet -- if it makes the same sound, then it might not be a r...
Smelly softening woofer and midranges
Roger, how old is the speaker and what part of the speaker is getting sticky (e.g., tweeter, woofer)? If it's a woofer, try pressing it in with your hand (fingers spread touching the cone around the dust cover of the speaker) when the power is off...
Anyone heard of Swan Lee?
Sounds wonderful! Since I'm always on the hunt for new music, I ordered it. Looks like there's only the one cd. If it sounds as great as I expect it to, I'll look forward to more releases. Thanks for the tip.
Concert Hall? Or Dedicated Listening Room?
Many of the great concert halls are sized for the music, sound better with lots of people in the seats and actually have a lot of acoustic treatment -- sometimes the treatment is more obvious than other times. Often overlooked architectural offset...
