For All These Years, No Idea I Was Dead
I had a similar experience but changed my mind a bit later. At first, the big room I had (approx 32.3x19.7x12, with hardwood, double wall board, and windows virtually all along one side), sounded very nice. The furniture and area rugs seemed to do...
Would anyone respond???
I'm very, very, very happy with my system with a few caveats: 1) I believe the front end power can be cleaner via conditioners, pc's, etc., 2) I'd like to spend more time on acoustic treatments, 3) I'd like to do more work on isolation / decouplin...
20A power cord on 15A amp connector?
John is correct -- I have both types of connectors and they only work for gear designed to accommodate that connector. However, I've seen ads for power cords with 15 amp connectors that claim 20 amp cord capabilities (i.e., the wiring can take it)...
do I have to match the db level on all speakers?
If all your speakers but one are at 88db, why not adjust the center -3db? Bear in mind that the acoustics of the room also enter the picture, as does the listening position relative to the speaker positions. You should adjust the speakers via the ...
The majic of early 1970's rock and it's influence-
I agree with both Swampwalker and Viridian. While that was a very influential period for that kind of music, I believe that jazz fans would talk of different eras of genius (depending on the type of jazz in question), modern rock fans would speak ...
Would Audiogoners be interested in this?
Nice site -- easy to navigate and the reviews are just long enough! Thanks. I look forward to the site's expansion. P.S. Wow! Lots of "Yes" releases!
Best find at C.E.S.
P.S. The Louise Hoffsten cd is available at Tower Records for about $16 -- you can listen to all the tracks. Some nice music. Interesting that Rolling Stone gave this a 3 out of 5 star rating. The presence of the performer in a really good recordi...
Best find at C.E.S.
Thanks Rusty. It's all about the music.
Does it matter what power amp i get?
driley, everything up the chain from the speakers affect the sound coming out. Amps, like other components, do have different characteristics from one another. Twl hit the nail on the head when he suggested you take care to match the amp to the sp...
Mis-guided passion, mis-spent cash, my advice.....
Great thread. I never thought of doing that and I sure didn't think there were that many bands that allowed it -- thanks C, that was a great list!
Please explain in simple terms...brightness
Here's another reference source, this from Stereophile: http://www.stereophile.com/reference/50/index1.htmlGregm provides a fine definition for brightness. IMHO, brightness tends to sound great at first (wow, listen to that detail!) but grates on ...
Inexpensive wine pairings?
For a red, I'd suggest Castillo Perelada -- Tinto Crianza, 2001 (50% Tempranillo 50% Garnacha grapes). About $13 -- very, very good, from Spain. For a white, the Cortenova, Verona -- Delle Venezie Pinot Grigio 2003 is quite good for about $12. It ...
Guilty Pleasures?
George Thorogood & Avril Lavigne (not together). Emil, I'm there with you with the Go-Go's ;-)
Speakers that work close to the back wall
Snells like back walls -- I just heard that from a fellow audiophile here in Charlotte who used to have a pair. Here are a few other threads that also talk to this. Quite frankly, until very recently, I didn't think there were any that sounded goo...
Need help on power supply caps
P.S. You may wish to also check with the manufacturer -- obviously, power supplies are very complex. Here is an interesting read on some of the approaches that can be used:http://synergy.sager.com/ProductPDFs/PowerTransformer_FilterRatings.pdf#sea...
