Mcintosh c-28 Where do i go from here?
Mac's C33 would be a great match for your 2155. I think it wouldn't cost too much over your 600 range. I had a 28 new and when the 33 came out, thought it was much better. Good luck.
Magnepan 3.6
It could work IF: The amp has great transformers and a strong power supply and you don't play the music much above 80db. Not all SET's are created equal.I've heard 100 watt amps take a dump trying to drive my 3.6's. Even at lower levels it sounded...
Top ten tube preamps
My vote would be for the Art Audio Alana.
Pass Labs Aleph Question - balanced vs unbalanced?
Ghostrider45, Thanks for the explanation . I thought I was going to be a majority of one on this. I always say try both and see what sounds best. In his case, with a tube pre, the balanced might be given the nod as the imput imp of the Aleph is 25...
the paradox of accurate speakers
> if 2 speakers are considered "accurate", but when compared sound "different" from each other, how can they be considered accurate ? <No 2 speakers are ever accurate, therefore, they will both sound the same, that is, inaccurate. :-)I'll se...
Pass Labs Aleph Question - balanced vs unbalanced?
The only "sonic reason" should be that one way sounds better than the other and that's up to you. Sometimes the differences are very subtle and it's hard to tell. Seeing as your pre is not a fully balanced unit, the signal would have to be convert...
Crossover-less Speakers
To thread starter:Not so much a transition as I still have the Maggies, but I had to let go of my Apogees in my 2nd system and replaced them with single drivers. I could not find a multi driver that worked for me. The combo I like is a single driv...
Do true audiophiles own Mcintosh gear
Dbarger, Agree with you. Don't understand how someone could say "nothing innovative". Not musical, I can understand, as that's just their opinion and Mac may not be to their taste. It is to mine.To the thread starter: Yeah, some of true audiophile...
Direct Line Question
Ah the Coriolis Effect. This is why I always have my speakers facing west. Once the sound leaves the speaker it gets to me faster. :-)
40 yrs ago today, the world got "Experienced"
Ah Jimi, why'd you have to leave us so soon. True story: Years ago my Brother-in-law asked if I would make him a tape from all the surf albums I had. (Don't ask). In a moment of creativity I decided to tape the intro to "Third Stone from the Sun" ...
How to change vacuum tubes on the VPI 16.5 ?
Drmoss, For a second I misunderstood the title too and I have a 16.5! Studio68, Since your question has been answered, permission to have a little fun as Cytocycle has begun?I changed the tube on mine and now it sucks more than ever.
Small Room. Go for it or forget about it?
There are speakers that will work in small rooms. Small and front ported would be some general guidelines. Sonus Faber has some nice ones, you might check into single drivers also. That's where I ended up getting the best sound in my 12 x 14 home ...
Mcintosh 501's with Magnepan 1.6 QR
I think the Mac would be a step in the right direction. I have 3.6's and have used their MC500 and still have the MC1000 monos. A while ago I used their 352 with the 1.6, nothing bright at all. If you get a chance to demo, see if you can try a dif...
Koetsu cartridges - what arms work?
I have the Koetsu Urushi mounted on an SME IV.vi. Works for me. I don't have any experience with other high end arms but had always heard that SME & Koetsu was a nice match so I went with that.
Cheap DIY FM Antenna
Congrats on your "new" Sansui. I just added one to my collection and love it.On antennas, first, free and easy, try hooking the wire to the other 300 screw just to see if it gets any better. Second, cheap and easy although not DIY, get a $4 folded...
