Quad 988's-how big a room and how far off walls??? The ol Ficus Tree tweek behind the speaker would help plus chicks dig ficus trees. Look into some Bedini amps, they are supposed to have great synergy with Quads. Good luck.
Art Audio Carissa vs Cary SLI-80 I can't speak for or against the Cary but I do own a Carissa, Sig version, and it is sweet. It has a magic that truly draws me in. I use it sometimes on my Maggie 3.6's. It has the quality to drive them up to its 16 wpc limit and still maintain al...
McIntosh MC252 vs. MC352 Dilly,I'm heeding your advice. I too have fallen for the 300b, and other SET's, sound. I almost sold my MC1000's last week to pave the way for a higher powered SET for my Maggies. Luckily, I think, the guy who was interested in them has all but di...
How loud do you listen to your music? Paul, we exchanged virtues of the SET vs PP in another thread, have you had any experience with parallel SE vs SET? How does that piano decay when the triodes are in parallel?
Very small bookshelf speakers / system Check out the Quest Radio that was reviewed on 6moons. Nice wood enclosure, retro looking, uses 2 el84 tubes. I got one for my wife and she loves it. We just hook up a portable CD player to it if needed. Good luck.
John Dunlavy may not be with us much longer. I met John back in the 90's. Both he and his wife were very gracious to me. He even took me into a locked room that only he had a key to, not even his employees. There were some "interesting" things he was into beyond speakers. Sometimes you can j...
List of small speakers for 6 watt T amps??? Check out Omegaloudspeakers.com. I have a pair with a RWA Tripath amp, nice combo.
best preamp ever - cost is no object Hi Mrtennis:As I said upfront, I based "my" decision on the fact that the game of tennis is played on different surfaces so my vote goes to Agassi. Others may feel it's more important to them that someone won 25 Wimbledons in a row so that's who t...
best preamp ever - cost is no object In response to the initial thread, there is no universal best due to individual taste.Same with the tennis analogies. "My" opinion is that Agassi was the best, although Laver would make for a great discussion. I base my decision on the fact that T...
Best RCA to mini adapter or RCA to mini cable? I bought both from Radio Shack. I prefer the RCA to mini adaptor. I get to choose my IC and the length I want although I wouldn't go to long.
Tube pre-amps $3500 under to add "warmth" You might look into a Gill Audio/Art Audio "Alana" Preamp. I am way more than surprized at how good this sounds. 6922's, no cathode follower, very musical and it's only got 10 hours on it so far. Good luck.
improving digital amp sound I tried a Red Wine Audio Sig 30, it's based on the Tripath chip, last summer. I find it anything but lean and clinical. It's a keeper and I have 5 SET amps. It has a Dact attenuator so you can run a source straight into it or use it as a gain cont...
Sanus, Skylan stand questions I've had several stands over the years. Most expensive were the dedicated B&W 805 ones at $600. I now have 2 sets of Skylan stands that are the best I've ever owned. I think Skylan can make a custom top plate if you tell them what speaker you ...
Pink Floyd's Pulse DVD finally Ben, I think it is more of what your are looking for. I had the VHS and the Laser and this DVD is special. Never saw any of the bootleg dvd copies but I don't think the quality of those could compare to what they have done here.
Using MX110 with Mcintosh MC220 Set the MX110 to FM and use the tape output into the "tuner" input of the 220. I think you might enjoy your MX110's tuner even more that way. Good luck. |
