Are Pre-Amps necessary? I tried my Bricasti M3 direct in place of a Lamm L1. The noise dropped and my perception of resolution increased. The first minute I thought the change was for the better. Percussive instruments were sharply augmented over vocals (like a bad mix) ...
Who are the Stand Up Guy's and Gals in this Audio Industry? I do not recall a bad retailer or manufacturer experience. Often the experience is related to unreasonable consumer behavior which is a real problem these days. I have good experiences with TMR, Lamm, Acoustic Frontiers (San Francisco), Purist Aud...
What do audiophiles do in their cars? I listen to sirius xm, which has poor sound quality. My oem stereo is not good and neither is the road noise. The setbacks of upgrading the stereo like removing panels is not worth it to me. The other problem is integrating a better stereo with th...
HiFi vs MidFi I always thought it a slang term to include brands like Rotel, NAD, Cambridge, etc. as well as entry-level lines from larger manufacturers. Like what is (very generally) found on audioadvisor. I have heard the term used in a conceited manner but f...
Looking for new speakers for large audio room Large panel speakers in a large are just fantastic. You get an even-powered sound field and a lack of volume drop-off at distance that that makes the whole room’s sound enjoyable.
Speaker placement: Rug in front of speakers vs Rug underneath speakers I would think more control would be had with multi surface treatments rather dependent on covering an area with one large surface. A large rug will absorb only high frequencies. In order to increase the bandwidth I would highly suggest a felt rug ...
Biggest "bang for the buck" audio gear you have owned(in your history)? Ikea Lack is best deal in audio I know. I have owned five racks, including fairly expensive to me Finite Elemente and SRA. The lack makes high performance shelving accessible for everyone. Another one is 47 labs OTA cable "kits" with the caveat th...
why do so many discussions turn contentious? When you act like a jerk, you’re going to get blowback. Then you think of yourself as a victim, and then poor Tammy sometimes has to get involved. I feel bad for and appreciate her and the audiogon team.
Any JBL 4367 owners or opinion? It seems to me like you have a great starting gear to support their use, although I no personal experience with your amplifier. I used wood furniture dollies, which provide a decent height and ability to experiment with placement, until I bought a...
Any JBL 4367 owners or opinion? That is a pretty open-ended question, and I hate to muse too much. It is really a hybrid between a horn section that is dumbed down to match a large woofer. That woofer is aided by limiting its LF extension, so it too keeps the soundwave from fall...
A MEMBER IN NEED OF SUPPORT I enjoy your posts. Best of luck going forward. Glad you and your family are least safe. -Brian
New to me speakers I would not be looking to power Utopias with low to moderate power tube amp. I have heard Moabs and a few more recent Utopia line speakers, and my opinion it is pretty lopsided. No speaker is an island though, you have to have the right gear.
RMAF 2021 Cancelled Sorry to hear that. I had fun at those shows. Must make it point to support Axpona.
Speakers for Computer There are a lot of DAC/digital to analog converters with USB inputs that can connect to the USB port on your computer without having to concern yourself with a sound card. There are also a lot of devices with the DAC and the speaker amplifier in t...
What audio expos are worth going to? I used to go to Axpona annually until they moved it out of Rosemont. JD Events does an excellent job producing it. I also used to go to RMAF, but found the Marriott hotel was not made for audio shows ;). I think they have moved it. Both definitely... |
