King of High Current Amps
The Classe DR-# amps have a lot of current and headroom. The DR-3 is one of those that will drive anything, and with 8db of headroom. I saw one go for $650 not too long ago.
Where is the weak chain in my system?
I would say the weakness if not bottleneck in your very nice system is the Crosslink. Beyond going up the Cardas line I do know of a good recommendation. An upgrade to thicker cable like Cross, Golden Cross or Hexlink would definately be a smooth ...
Homemade floor protectors -- advice needed
I have audio points under my speakers and have used their discs for my last place's hardwood floor. My speaker are about seventy pounds and three feet high so, I needed another person to help me put the spiked speakers on to the discs. I forgot ho...
Is a 12' X 16' room big enough for stereo?
I used a pair of Hales Revelation Twos in a room about 10x11 last year. At low volume, it sounded gooda and surely would have sounded better with wall treatment. You are OK. I think your Thiels will sound fine. Maybe a little wall treatment & ...
Need help on cartridge recommendation, under 500.
The dynavector 20x is availible at Origin Live for a little under $400. Shipping to the US is quick too. I wish I cold comment firsthand on its sound, but my TT has not quite made it to my house yet.
Classe' amps
I do not know if they still do but, Classe used to have an upgraded power cord. That would probably be a safer bet than an aftermarket cord.
Classe' amps
I own a Classe 70 and probably will try to find a DR-9 or DR-3 to upgrade to sometime. I have noticed that my amp is really sensitive to the power from the outlet. It is picky about powercords, is susceptible to hum and sounds much better at night...
10 sonically best rock recordings ?
Gregg, sorry, it is called 'for the Masses'. It is pretty good. A lot of people like the smashing pumpkins version of 'never let me down again', I like Rabbit in the Moon's 'Waiting for the Night'. http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver/SID=12506389...
Music you might have missed
At the Drive-In's 'Relationship of Command' is sort of like Rage Against the Machine's albums, except that it is good. Then there is Curve. Curve is a band that rules (icy female vocals with semi/experimental guitar and cool bass lines). Butch Vig...
10 sonically best rock recordings ?
Depeche Mode's 'Exciter', Moby's "Play", Doors (only the records), Depeche Mode compilation HDCD 'Music for the Masses', Type O Negatives's 'Bloody Kisses', Aphex Twin's 'Selected Ambient Works v2' (i call this rock), Alice In Chains 'Unplugged' a...
Is the quality of the AC in canada is better than USA ?
Canada vs USA power, I think, is too broad of a generalization. In an apartment, in a city, the power is bad (ask my amp). Usually better in less populated areas, but it also depends on other, more specific details, like where your line is at in t...
wow, a newbie power cord convert
I never disputed the difference a power cord could make, but recently a new friend was nice enough to lend me a couple different ones, and no doubt there was a difference. The cords with my pre created a fuller sound which was particularly good fo...
Bedroom wars: NAD L40 vs. Linn Classik
If the Classik is the one with a cdp built in, it retails for $2k. But you have to get it in one of the cool colors for a tiny bit more.
Hidden GEMS
I like LFD Mistral. They have a potent integrated amp that I heard at a dealer. I own thier preamp and enjoy its smooth, large sound and its attractive, quality build.
Dallas Texas High End?
Thsalmon beat me to it. Audio Insight and Audio Concepts are also at the top of my list. Both have nice stuff, and good listening rooms, although i get do mixed treatment at Audio Concepts, but hat maybe because I am young. Hillcrest HiFi is mostl...
