please help a rookie
If you decide on B&W, get an amp with some power (100-150 watts), and a decent amount of stability in to a reactive load. A used Classe CAP-100 or 150 will do well, but I am sure there are others with the juice to do the job nicely.
money AND time. How do I get both?
Your name is Brian and you like Type O Negative and hi-fi, and you work too much. Are you the future me? If you are a doctor, then this is the Twilight Zone. Take care of yourself.
Gold Face Olympic Power = Canada
The game looked like an NHL all star game, making the Canadian/American sides SEEM arbitrary. Good game, though. Go America Jr.!!
Need B&W match for Krell KAV300i amp
The 805s are too revealing and dry to pair with the 300i. If new, the CDM series is your best bet.
Turntable suggestions?
Charles - you lost me at 'hello'.
Caught in a squeeze
There also may be something for a reasonable price at audioreview. I do not know how hot HK is on the used market, but their recievers should be decent enough.
Help me spend 600
You are smart to upgrade a piece at a time. I also think you should upgrade the phono pre. Sonically, your MM pre (is) will pining back any upstream upgrade and you already have a couple carts that are well suited to the Planar 3. And it has been ...
Extended Warrenty???
I read this report concerning Best Buy extended warranties. The report claims that management puts so much pressure to push them, that sometimes salesmen will find an excuse (ex. 'not in stock') not to sell the item if the customer refues the ext....
How important is precise VTA adjustment?
"Perhaps this is why I am being offered this deal in the first place."Regas are a typical arm found on the Michell tables, but they are not as expensive as the SME, et. al. Getting an arm with a nice VTA adjuster is definately a better bet, but it...
Anyone help with Triangle Celius
If you like the Celius more than your Krell, maybe get amplification similar to what was used when you heard the speakers. My bet is that you can hold on to the cable.
Diagnosis: Cartridgecide
Nevermind. The symptoms described in my last post pointed to the culpret; I just found it hard to believe for various reasons. The problem has ended up being the tonearm cable, for sure. Thank you Grandpad, and thanks again Richard for taking time...
Diagnosis: Cartridgecide
Well, I reversed the L/R to the cartridge and the silence remained in the same, right speaker. I then reversed the tonearm wire that connects to the preamp (while the wire to the cart was still reversed), and the silence switched from the right to...
Diagnosis: Cartridgecide
Thank you very much, Richard.
Best "Used" Audiophile speakers for 1000-1500
I agree Sean, but even if you knew the answers to the usual and any other questions, you still will not know enough to confidently suggest anything. Buying speakers unheard based thread recommendations, if that is what the orignal poster is attemp...
Non Audiophiles are funny people
I have a flexy that holds about half my equipment. The bug man was impressed and felt that I should earn some money making them. The funny thing was my nerdy stammering while I tried to compile a simple explanation about why I couldn't. Then there...
