My brother the doctor needs speakers I would go with the 300 series B&Ws too or any speaker fairly forgiving of electronics. Am I correct in guessing that he is a fairly casual listener, HT type of guy? Paradigm Reference might also do well with off-axis and HT use.
Brightness Differences Between Daytime and Evening While I believe AC to be the main culpret, I am guessing RFI or EMF? augmented/generated by the sun also contribute. I obviously do not know the precise terminology or happenings. My theory comes from the fact that there is more hum from my TT/pre...
Do you use spikes for tile/marbel floor? I am confident in believing that you should get some intermediate device. You would be a little hard pressed to find a speaker that would sound as good riding bareback on any type of floor. I have used audiopoint spikes and disks on hardwood floor...
CLASSE - Great amps or highly flawed? Why are you getting so defensive and sensitive, Kevziek? Can't you take criticism of the internal validity of your findings? They are far from empirical. The fact is auditioning is more of a bottom-up process than most care to admit, and you certa...
Ear Candy: Most startling recordings. I just recently heard Trent Reznor's remix of Curve's 'Missing Link'. I am guessing some phase alterations were implemented because it sounds like there is a third and fourth speaker 15' to either side of you. The sound is not encompassing per se;...
Level Restrictions? I too am in college, but I live in a blue-collar apt. complex. I go to class in the morning and am mostly restricted to loud levels in the afternoon before the neighbors get home. I know what cars my neighbors drive, so I just have to peak out my ...
Pros and Cons of Platter Mass Looks like my physics class paid off. I thought there might be more implications of platter mass than I initially theorized with before starting this thread, although Frogman's (great moniker) comment on aliveness and resonance was new to me. And ...
Nottingham Tonearm and cartridges Sounds more like a question for Tom Fletcher. The number is 44 1773 762947.
please help a rookie If you decide on B&W, get an amp with some power (100-150 watts), and a decent amount of stability in to a reactive load. A used Classe CAP-100 or 150 will do well, but I am sure there are others with the juice to do the job nicely.
money AND time. How do I get both? Your name is Brian and you like Type O Negative and hi-fi, and you work too much. Are you the future me? If you are a doctor, then this is the Twilight Zone. Take care of yourself.
Gold Face Olympic Power = Canada The game looked like an NHL all star game, making the Canadian/American sides SEEM arbitrary. Good game, though. Go America Jr.!!
Need B&W match for Krell KAV300i amp The 805s are too revealing and dry to pair with the 300i. If new, the CDM series is your best bet.
Turntable suggestions? Charles - you lost me at 'hello'.
Caught in a squeeze There also may be something for a reasonable price at audioreview. I do not know how hot HK is on the used market, but their recievers should be decent enough.
Help me spend 600 You are smart to upgrade a piece at a time. I also think you should upgrade the phono pre. Sonically, your MM pre (is) will pining back any upstream upgrade and you already have a couple carts that are well suited to the Planar 3. And it has been ... |
