Speakers for aging audiophiles - What's with today bass emphasis ?
If certain recordings are a problem and the "bass quality is great" I would assume a tone control and/or maybe some seat or speaker positioning experimentation would be fruitful, though I do relate to the idea that bookshelf speakers commonly have...
JBL 4312SE 70th Anniversary ?
Is JBL on a roll? The L100 Classic, COMING SOON. I think the price is ~ $4k.
Best Speakers for Very Large Bright Room
I also have a bit of a racquet ball court of a room. While low distortion speakers with a good dispersion like the personas and KEFs can help I think you will spinning the wheels to solve your problem.  You could toe-in the fronts, maybe significa...
New KEF Reference 5 speakers
What was the amplification used at the store? I wonder if your dealer could help you out experimenting with a pre/amp other than ARC. I do not know specifically about KEF break-in, but speakers do not generally go from bad to good sounding. Bright...
Contemplating DEVORE SPEAKERS (and others)....LONG audition report of many speakers
I enjoyed your A3 audition impressions. I heard them at Lone Star Audio Fest, a small but now a better respresented audio show. My audition was short with unfamiliar music in a carefully setup, oversized hotel room. https://www.flickr.com/photos/6...
Do You Remember Your First Time?Is It As Good As You Dreamed?
Audio did not happen to me; I sought it out starting at various dealers in the late nineties. The really nice gentlemen at Audio Insight, a Dallas area dealer long since closed, entertained a kid in his late teens with an audition of Hales Revelat...
"Bookshelf" speakers designed to be placed near the wall behind them?
Wilson just came out with the Tune Tot, a smallish bookshelf intended for restricted placement options. The price is about $10k, I believe.
New Speakers up to $15k - The more I read the less I know!
Is there a speaker with flatter frequency response, better imaging or that disappears better at ~$15k than KEF Reference 3? I am not particularly a fan or a detractor, but it certainly fits the bill.
Y No YG ?
I have just heard the Carmel with Gryphon at Lone Star Audio Fest and got a cool brochure as well. I actually think the Scan Speak Carmels are awesome. They have better bass than the IIs but otherwise are not really as good. I like YG’s slightly e...
Why Aren't More Speaker Designers Building Augmented Widebanders?
The on-paper interrelated issues with widebanders is distortion (resonance), frequency deviation and dispersion. I don’t know Bache, but I do know Reference 3A and Horning Hybrid. Both lines use mechanically rolled of mid/woofer in to a tweeter th...
Revel Salon 2’s (used) or new Magico A-3 (new) ??
Oglala Oglala,Thanks! Which exact model # did you get?Hi, in that case you are asking me I own JBL 4367s. Cousins of the Revels, despite their obvious design differences they sound a lot like the ultimas. I heard today for the first time at the Lo...
JBL everest?
Everersts are shown routinely in HK rooms at shows where they do not do well, in my opinion. K2s and 4367s have had the same fate. At RMAF Home Sound Audio was able to setup a pair of 4367s in a very shallow room and they were awesome. Again the a...
Revel Salon 2’s (used) or new Magico A-3 (new) ??
Even though the S3mkII lack the drama in scale and dynamics compared to the Salons, the Magicos have great tone. I find the Revels more threadbare. I don't know the A3 but don't see how it is not more restricted than the S3. Thanks for the LSAF re...
Hearing loss , speakers or headphones ?
The hd800 has a high frequency resonance issue mitigated by the 800S design. I’ve heard both. 800s is a really nice headphone. I think better control would be had using an equalizer.
Choice of Vandersteen models
I heard them before the stereophile review. I have heard a later version and the ct as well. First hand, I consider it a notable issue relating to the op question. I don’t google measurements to post them here.
