ESL57 vs ESL63
@mijostyn No. Stu Remmington rebuilds. Chokes, fixed bias, film bypass/PIO caps and triode input. I have another pair of recapped originals.
Tube Amps With Good Bass Qualities
@br3098 Not necessarily true. The amplifier's ability to control the motors of the speakers is critical.
ESL57 vs ESL63
I run 57s (with grills off) on 20" stands with 1960s EICO push-pull tube amps and they can go pretty loud and sound magnificent. I’m not sure why but in my set-up they sound better than all speakers I’ve ever heard at shows (for what they do - the...
if you did buy the new schiit sol.......
Why not? Schiit did. I used have a $1500 Decca SG on my first idler, an old, original $700 Garrard 401. With amazing results. Nevertheless, I’d always advise to get the table in order first as a general rule.
Whats on your turntable tonight?

Moving Iron Carts or stick with LOMC
Glen, fair enough. Apologies for reiterating this upgrade advice. The 850 is transformative when you've used 750s and CA$1500 not $2-3k.  Add PH Sien's bearing at $230 inc s/h to your wish list! You might look at a Decca/London Gold with a Decapod....
Moving Iron Carts or stick with LOMC
Glen, I mentioned this to you before. Replace your 750L with the 850L. Way better. Can you move the 750 to position 2 or do you have to use a 9"?You are missing an opportunity to make a large improvement to your table by not replacing the idler wi...
if you did buy the new schiit sol.......
Per my post above, I'm amused to see that Schiit are using a Decca Maroon ($1000) on their demo at RMAF.
Why do YOU love Vinyl/or hate vinyl
MC comes out with guns blazing!I guess sales are good and artists are ensuring they have new vinyl releases. The one thing I noticed at AXPONA and NY Audio Show was that the best sounding rooms or sessions were when a turntable was in use.
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Frank Zappa - One Size Fits All (Discreet 1975)I played this twice. Once with my Decca Gold (newly retipped Decapod Garrot Microscanner) and then with my Decca Super Gold with a Paratrace tip.It was as if I listened to two different recordings. Nuts.
Why do YOU love Vinyl/or hate vinyl
Apart from all the other reasons you mentioned, my reason is simple. Original well-recorded analogue records sound better than any reissues. Warts and all, there is a see-through clarity with the originals.
if you did buy the new schiit sol.......
It screams for a London/Decca but they’re not inexpensive. I heard it at AXPONA with a Nagaoka MP11 and their set up video uses a Grado Black(?). What I heard was a somewhat clear but mellow sound. With the Grado, which can be even more laid back,...
RMAF 2019 PS Audio AN3 loudspeaker
They are redesigned. Totally. And possibly $20k.
Hear my Cartridges....🎶
You could always sell a cartridge and afford the good stuff!Because of this post, I’m tasting 3 tonight. The Benriach 16, Auchentoshan 12, and The Balvenie Peat Week 14. Hic.
Nasty Static on Vinyl
So much so that the static comes through even when the amp is muted. Are you saying that this noise occurs with the stylus dropping or playing and the amplifier is muted? Something is really wrong with this. Are you sure it isn't an electronics...
