If you have a concrete floor, you might consider a concrete block stand. While possibly not in line with what you might want aesthetically, it sounds great. I use blocks with 3" maple top.

@halcro  Have you heard the Roger Waters 'In The Flesh Tour' DVD? Simply brilliant.  
TT, 12" Tonearm. Who tried and ended up preferring 12" arm?
Everyone knows dustcovers down close in the sound. :-)  I found that out on my LP12 back in the 80s. Metal lids do the same thing to tube preamps.

Thanks for sharing that insider info. I had no idea JW would vary materials like that. Does it mean each cartridge has to be fine tuned for brightness by changing the "stylus holder" materials? Can you imagine the possibilities? Tungsten, silicon ...

@millercarbon There's no cantilever on the Decca. @rauliruegas The 12" Jelco 850, knife bearings or not, sounds fantastic with the Decca. @chakster The 12" Jelco 850 sounds fantastic with all three of my Deccas. Gentlemen, thanks for your comments...

@stringreen Set up exactly as the 12" except for overhang. They're on the same table. However, you got me thinking. The 9" has the standard Jelco base while the 12" has the Ammonite base. Could there be an azimuth issue? Would that cause surface n...
