Mono-blocking my two Mc Intosh MC-2205's ???
Looks like I was wrong. McIntosh don't bridge, they parallel, which explains why the output impedance drops and the power only doubles. I thought that might have something to do with transformers. All you need is jumpers between the left and right...
Mono-blocking my two Mc Intosh MC-2205's ???
Don't have a Mac but according to the lit, there is a switch on the back for mono operation. Typically, but not specifically to the 2205, you would flip that switch to mono, use only the right channel input only (both amps) and connect the speaker...
Holographic imaging
Are we talking about time induced distortion (TID)?Last time I heard about TID was in the manual for the Mission 777 amp of the 80's. That designer attacked the problem with an abundant power supply, local feedback instead of global, very wide ope...
Why no Room Tuning Questions?
Since you have a source for 703, look at the Ready Acoustics bags. Seriously consider double or triple thick.Trying to figure out the best type and location of traps is not easy, even with a SPL meter and downloaded test tones or software. It ofte...
10k system for ultimate image density at 70-75db?
"Foundation" at 70dB is not a realistic expectation. I'm sure you can find something unrealistic for much less than 10K.
Who uses what Class 'd' modules?
Meridian and Genesis use Hypex as well.
Question about speakers...
Don't believe everything you hear. It's not possible to sit at an equal distance from all the tweeters of a line array.
Active crossover advice for 1000hz biamp
Hey, how about a balanced Marchand along with a Manley Massive Passive EQ. Only another $5K, but all analog.
Active crossover advice for 1000hz biamp
If you're bypassing the passive crossover, which is the only way this makes sense at this high a xover, you'll need to know more about the passive. Is it notched or shelved? Actives are usually 24dB/octave, fourth order or even 48dB/octave where p...
Used speakers for $3k? Oh the confusion
Familiar with most of your list except the Talons and Bulldogs. Although they are all capable of both dynamics and bass, they are quite different. The Vandy is the understated. SCIVA is precise, sometimes to a fault. Genesis smears some vocals in ...
Selling to Canadians
So far, never had a problem with UPS. They have always collected duties and brokerage (UPS ground only) when delivered. Last package from Fedex, they said my address doesn't exist so I had to pick it up. Clerk at the desk, who couldn't have been m...
Idiotic Vertical Biamping Question
I currently have both vertical and horizontal. Bass amp, (semi) active xover, and dual amps bridged to mono (Plinius does this easily). Previous setup also had 3 chasis but the uppers were born monoblocks and it used the passive xover of the speak...
Just the musings of an audiophile
Seems like I spent all that money so I could stop listening to sound analytically. I've always enjoyed the music but there's just less noise in the way now.
Buzz about pure class A solid state amplifiers ?
You did an A/B comparison between class A and class A/B except that A and B were apples and oranges (bananas, if you prefer). Not to mention the interaction with the rest of the system and personal preferences. The only true test would be on the sa...
Manley Snapper mono blocks-Your opinions please
I arranged a purchase of Snappers for a friend with Dunlavy SCIII's. I got a "family" discount but my brother don't work there no more so don't ask. They did spend a brief time in my system but I also got to hear them several times later.Aptly nam...
