Tube pre picking up feedback/vibration? I'll take a second shot at this one -I'm not sure but it appears that Brrgrr's complaint is 'muddiness' and when he taps the case he gets feedback from his speakers caused, we must assume by microphonics. He connects the microphonics and the muddi...
Tube pre picking up feedback/vibration? Your tubes appear to be microphonic - new low noise tubes are better than trying to quieting old ones with dampers. You said you had this retuned. Did you mean to say retubed? Also, re muddiness, are you by any chance using EH6922's?
Hum coming through speakers via Bat 300X If you disconnect (or connect) a component to your amp while the amp is on you can cause a 'pop' which could blow out a driver, usually a tweeter, in your speakers. This is especially true with an amp to pre-amp connection with separates (which yo...
Anyone enjoy their amp's sound more than music? Of course we love the sound of our systems. Why do you think we visit and post on this site. All of us! Its only a problem when you only turn the system on to listen to it's incredible sound. Any music will do so long as it shows off your systems ...
Hum coming through speakers via Bat 300X Unplug your sources. Does the hum go away? Then reconnect one source at a time and see when the hum starts up again. When it does, put a cheater plug on the PC coming from the offending source component and see if it goes away. Be sure to turn off...
Upgrade Help: CDP or DAC I think you will really be better off with a tubed DAC if your goal is to reduce listener fatigue caused by harsh upper mids and highs. But be careful. Unit selection and tube selection is very important to achieve this. Out of the box a tube unit...
Which headphones?? Marakanetz, Are you satisfied that you used an amp that best matched the Senn's you listened to. FWIW, for example, I tried a highly regarded amp, as well as a CDP with a capable built in amp. Both of my Senn Headphones (598 and 650) sounded like ...
Jazz for aficionados Rok2id, FWIW not only is my knowledge of Jazz poor, my use of English and my editing skills are even worse. My use of the word 'you' was inappropriate. I should have used the word 'one'. My post was not so much about you at all, although I can see...
Jazz for aficionados Rok2kid, I too share your technical ignorance about music form, etc. In fact mine ignorance is rather profound, at least so I'm told. :-) That said, consider that most folks, and I assume you as well, have grown accustomed to wearing 2 hats in 'au...
Hybrid SACD are they compatible w/non SACD playe Hybrid SACD's have two formats, SACD and RBCD. These hybrid CD's will play on either type of player. SACD CDP's will usually default to SACD layer, but on some at least on my Marantz you can also select RBCD layer instead of the SACD layer. The hy...
Which headphones?? Be sure to consider using a separate headphone amp which will drive your phones. This can make a huge difference. I'm using the Senn 598s and a small Fournier tubed amp (costs about $175 and is sold on E-Bay) in my TV room. Nice relaxed sound. I u...
Is soundstage just a distortion? Al's comments are on point. Goeff's reference to the Opus 3 recordings, especially 'Depth of Image' makes me wonder though what would have happened if I had never heard that record over a system which had its soundstage capabilities optimized. I u...
Is soundstage just a distortion? FWIW, I like Almarg's observations regarding ceiling (room) reflections of the very high frequencies as being a possible issue contributing to the illusion of height. I would add though that I think the volume (SPL's) might be as great a contribut...
Looking to Upgrade my CDP Lowrider, FWIW I like Rrog's suggestion re having a 2d CDP that will accommodate older CD's, especially if it is a tubed unit because that allows you to tailor the sound to your system as well as the CD's themselves. Works for me. BTW, I've found ...
Greatest Composers of All Time Brownsfan, Thanks for your response. Until Lewis I had been relying on Goode, Brendel and Perahia for most, but not all, of my Schubert. I've never heard Richter's recordings of Schubert - I checked and found the Argo disc's on Arkiv and have orde... |
