Rok, FWIW I stated several years ago my reasons for not actively participating in this thread. You can locate them and refresh yourself if need be. But the short version is this - I find it unrewarding to participate in a conversation with anyone ...
Will Changing my 100 Watt Tube Amp to a 200 Watt SS Amp Solve My Problem?
Mark, What this says to me is that your issue is with the noise floor of your phono stage. With the cartridge (TT) disconnected from the phono stage the noise you are hearing is inherrent with the design or the mechanical condition of the phono st...
Jazz for aficionados
Frogman, FWIW, there is something condescending, I think, when some one feels that he needs to protect jazz history and it's fans from misinformation put forward by some folks, especially those who's motivation is as transparent as Rok and Orpheus...
Will Changing my 100 Watt Tube Amp to a 200 Watt SS Amp Solve My Problem?
Hi Mark, It appears that you have sourced your problem correctly to your phono stage and/or cartridge. To determine whether its is the phono stage or the cartridge or both in combination, disconnect the IC from your TT to the phono stage and just ...
Will Changing my 100 Watt Tube Amp to a 200 Watt SS Amp Solve My Problem?
Sorry, another question.Have you disconnected all of your sources from your pre-amp, in fact unplugging them is best, and then rotate your volume control to its 3 o'clockposition and see if you still have the noise? Rotate to max, any noise then? ...
Will Changing my 100 Watt Tube Amp to a 200 Watt SS Amp Solve My Problem?
Mark, Maybe a dumb question, but exactly where are you when you can first hear the noise? When you are in your listening chair? 6' from your speakers? 6" from your speakers? I know some folks, of the anal sort, like me perhaps, who put their ear r...
Will Changing my 100 Watt Tube Amp to a 200 Watt SS Amp Solve My Problem?
Does it have a quiet phono stage? Or you could buy a gun. Personally, I I had to go solid state I think I'd choose the latter! :-)
Will Changing my 100 Watt Tube Amp to a 200 Watt SS Amp Solve My Problem?
John, Is the adjustibility of gain is the LS25 applied after the source but before the volume control and line stage amplification (tubes).  It did on my ARC Pre (a different model). The blurb I read on this pre-amp talked about the ability to red...
Tube Rolling questions from a recent addict:
Re your sonic preferences, perhaps a new production  power tube to consider would be the Tung-Sol 6550. It has a little extra bass tone. I use them in one of my Primaluna amps, and a Cayin Amp, quite happily.  The new production Genalex Gold Lion ...
Tube Rolling questions from a recent addict:
FWIW, IMHO, the principal benefit in changing tubes, power or small tubes, is to either get a more quiet tube (small tubes), get more power (from some large tube types) or more likely just changing the tone (all tubes). If you are thinking about ch...
Mesa Baron
I have one I'm willing to sell. It uses 5881's and has had factory mod's using Wima Caps. I'm in California. If you are interested PM me. BTW I'm the original owner.
Importance of input tubes to sound quality?
FWIW I think I was wrong about tubes in this amp. So far I've only found reference to the 6922's and atmosphere is right with this amp. Now if I could just remember the amp I was thinking about. Italian perhaps?
Importance of input tubes to sound quality?
Atmosphere, These tubes may be interchangeable in an LSA amp. As I recall anyway.
Is a KT-77 a plug in for a KT-88?
Not unless your amp is designed to accommodate them. Some amps can take both the smaller power tubes (KT77, EL34, 6L6GC, etc) and the larger ones (6550,KT88, KT90, KT120, and KT150), such as some made by Primaluna and Cary, most cannot. Check with...
Importance of input tubes to sound quality?
Of course they do but I'm sure there are a lot of folks who just aren't tuned into the degree of difference they might make. Some times it is fairly subtle and sometimes it is obvious depending what your equipment/set up is and how developed your ...
