Silverline Speaker Opinion I own the Bolero's and have listened to the Minuets, including stacked Minuets which I really liked, and the Sonata III. I thought the Sonata III was a bit over the top - they sounded much like a lot of other 'high end' speakers. They are all voic...
Any problem with Cary SLI-80 INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER You are not 'right' although a lot of folks seem to prefer it. I'm not one of them. I find that Ultralinear is a little more 'powerful' sounding and Triode is more recessed, power wise and soundstage wise. Ultralinear seems to have more emphasis i...
Recommendations please for good, affordable pre-amp for system? Donzi, Quicksilver makes a small tube pre-amp that is both relatively inexpensive (especially if you get one that isn't a remote control model) and of pretty good quality. And it might put some flesh on those bare bones sounds you will get out of ...
Primaluna amplifier Prologue vs Dialogue Anyone heard both? Worth it? I have not listened to the 'Premium' units, but from what I hear they will be more linear and modern sounding than the earlier Dialogues. If that is so then they might loose a bit of the warmth of the earlier Dialogues. I would miss that. Another ...
Primaluna amplifier Prologue vs Dialogue Anyone heard both? Worth it? I have owned the PL1, the PL3&5 combo, as well as the Dialogue 1 and the Dialogue 2. I sold off the Prologues a couple of years ago. The Dialogue 1 and 2 are both much better than the Prologue units. Better bass/lower midrange for one thing. I...
Recommended amp for Thiel 3.6 -- newbie Donzi, I'm a bit late on this post so I'll try not to just repeat all of the good comments of others regarding the need for a high current power amp. But I would add that high power is not necessarily all that important unless you are actually goi...
For the Primaluna amp owners .... I find that when I use triode that I loose some upper mid-range energy. Works quite well for CD recordings that have a bit too much energy in those frequencies, but for the most part I find I prefer pentode.
Why are people always getting into pissing matches because they think what they have is better Because they are insecure and, probably lonely. Mostly the former, I think.
Where did you sink the most cash into? My Silverline Boleros represent about 50% of the value of my audio system, excepting my music collection of course. Very nice speakers, BTW. :-)
Evening Classical Music; listening for relaxation Solo piano music by Ivan Moravec, one of our finest pianists, should be right up you alley. He is woefully under recorded but what he did was really wonderful. For starters I'd suggest: Beethoven piano sonatas (Appassionata, Pathetique, Moonlight,...

Admittedly a bit lost Like Whart, with whom I agree, I believe you have some fundamental limitations in space and volume levels permissible, which will to a great degree dictate the equipment (in this case speakers) you will be able to use. You don't want large bassy/b...
Top 10 low gain line stages Have you considerated just using in-line attenuators between your pre-amp and amp? If not, perhaps you should.
Wharfdale Denton Anniver spks. Excellent or hype? For $500 your really can't go wrong. I bought a pair for a second system and drive them with a Primaluna Dialogue 1 tube amp. Quite nice, although I think I might like to hear them through a good SS amp voiced on the warm side of neutral like a He...
Tubes and their problems Often popping sounds are just the result of dirty pins or poor contact of the pins with the tube sockets. When this occurs before you fret too much just try resetting the tubes in place or by switching channels. If that doesn't work you can try to... |
