Speaker Placement
To widen the sweet spot try crossing the axis of your speakers several feet in front of your present listening chair. That should do it, but you are still talking about a fairly focused image that will be appreciated by several people sitting in f...
Speaker Placement
I like Pop's response. Believe it or not everyone has a slightly different perception of what constitutes a good sound stage. FWIW I started with the Cardas recommendations and after a long time I ended up with my speakers 9' apart, 5.5 ft off the...
what houseold items
Strategically placed furniture such as book cases (w/books), plants, and wall hangings. Rugs, of course.
Help with speaker placement in my real life room
Hi Mark, Re your windows w/plantation shutters, certainly  better at diffusion than just plain glass which would be very reflective, and certainly the open/closed positions of the shutters will affect  it even more, but I'm not at all sure how bro...
Help with speaker placement in my real life room
It looks like it aught to work as is, but I would be concerned some with 1st reflections off the right side wall windows. You might try to toe in your speakers until the axis crosses in a foot or so in front of your head. Speakers can be hot on ax...
Wharfedale Denton 80th Anniversity speaker: Best stand height for them and brand??
FWIW I use a pair on 24" stands to good effect. I'm sure 26" would work as well - as Tim said if it matters to you it will depend  your ears height from the floor. I measure at the tweeter. Re sound, I love the mid range of these speakers but they...
Cary audio cd303t problems
I suspect that your laser needs to be cleaned. Your problem is somewhat common with tubed units because the cases are ventilated to dispurse heat and that allows dust to get in very easily. I had a BAT unit and was constantly cleaning the lens.
One Channel out on my Sonic Frontiers Line 1 pre-Amp
Switch the tubes as suggested. If that identifies the problem you simply buy a couple of tubes on line. Buy new production tubes - they are relatively cheap and will work fine in your pre-amp. There are many sources (previously discussed and recen...
Best Ways to Organize a Classical Record LP Collection ?
I sort of agree with elee - I have my music divided into four groups, Orchestral, Vocal, Chamber, and solo (or two) piano music. In each group I sub-divide as needed for what ever is appropriate to me, for example  usually by composer/performer/la...
Any vocals that you like?
Oregonpapa can speak for himself, but I doubt that he made a mistake when listing 'Etta Jones'. She is another jazz singer with a big voice. Actually I like her better than James. If you are interested I'd suggest you listen to a compilation on Hi...
Jazz for aficionados
Learsfool (and others), I was playing a disc the other night and I though of you - not your horn but I'm sort of indiscriminate (so I'm told). Andre Previn and Thomas Stevens play a classic american songbook on DRG. This may not be more than some ...
Jazz for aficionados
Frogman (an others?), I just played a 'Latin Jazz' recording that I thought you might enjoy if you haven't already heard it. On the down side it did win a Grammy and it is relatively recent. Charlie Haden's (an excellent bassist IMHO) recording on...
Do you like Mexican music??
Some romantic jazz = Charlie Haden's Land of the Sun with Gonzalo Rubalcaba  on Verve. Great laid back stuff for late evenings.
How should I install the new tubes in my stereo amplifier?
Correction -1st sentence, last paragraph - 'each channel' should be 'each tube'.
How should I install the new tubes in my stereo amplifier?
Well I don't know how your amp works either. But I assume two things, 1) it is a pp el84 amp and you have to bias it manually. Some amps have a bias adjustment for each tube, some have one bias adjustment for all of the tubes assigned to one chann...
