Amplification Recommendations Please
Do you know what the efficiency and impedence spec's are on your speakers? As I recall, a lot of the Infinity line had low impedence dips and really require a powerful amp (one with lots of current) to sound their best.
Good tube pre-amp for Rotel 1090 with Thiel 3.5s
Buda, Depends on what tonal qualities are important to you and how much you are willing to invest. Also, do you have any specif requirements of a pre-amp, i.e. phono stage, remote, HT pass thru, etc. Care to comment?
Mistake to
Douglas, What do you mean by "better quality/detail"? Do you find your present combo lacks or has too much "detail", that is its too dull or bright? If you could be a bit more specific about the tonal qualities you are looking for and what you now...

Actually Sean my post was just a poor attempt at humor, unfortunately at your expense. My appologies.
Eye-brain effect
Depends on your defininition of imaging and your expectations. You will never, under any circumstances, hear a SO sound realistic in your living room on any level, dynamics especially, and realness of the soundstage which is never so defined as it...
Am I crazy????? Try THIS
Xenithon & Eldartford, I find your certainty on this issue refreshing, I've always suspected as much but have paid hommage to the speaker manufacturers who supplied their speakers with spikes (over 20 years ago!) and gave that reason (smearing...
Mahler 5
Linkoping, I find Solti's Mahler under-rated by many - he may not dig as deeply into it aas some but it certainly doesn't lack a certain excitement (and, in general, I'm not a Solti enthusiast). If you don't already have it try Tennstedt's M5 on L...
New Years Resolutions
Sean, You've just failed the first test of your resolution. Those who would chose to rule, lead by example but never complain when folks don't follow their lead! Back into the pits (digital if you like) you go. But, in the spirit of your post, I r...
Best Soundtracks
Soundtrack from Braveheart - Warpipes, Drums, Marching, almost makes you want to join in the war! And it will test your system a bit if you turn up the volume.
Am I crazy????? Try THIS
The only down side that I can think of is that the movement of the drivers might cause the speakers to move imperceptively and cause some sonic smear which could effect the speakers imaging. Thats one of the principal reasons for putting speakers ...
What is "biwiring"?
Plamenz, Your amps would have to have the same input sensitivity to function properly. If they are different you would have to use a crossover or some form of attenuator for the more sensitive amp. Not as simple as it sounds unless you use identic...
New Years Resolutions
Marco, How much? For a few bucks I could become a real asshole, not just a pain in the ass. :-)Sean, Happy New Year - I'm rooting for you! You have so much to share, even if on occasions I think I'd prefer reading War & Peace. :-)
Tube Newbie
Tube CDP's/DAC's are a walk in the park. You change tubes only when they fail or wear out. When they fail you loose a channel, when they wear out you can tell by the sound which becomes dullish. Same for tube pre-amps. Amps are a bit more problema...
tube manufacturing
Jphii, Re: And EVERY NOS/NIB and even old .....has sounded better, period". Remember todays new production tubes which aren't worth a crap become NOS tubes when everyone has forgotten how bad they were. Want some Sovtek 12AX7 WTB's? And they are m...
Shahinian Oblisk
As others have said, you usually want to match the nominal impedence of the speakers to the output impedence tap of the amp, HOWEVER the real test is which output tap sounds best and it isn't always the "correct" one. Try both taps and see which o...
