The Best Midrange in the World Right Now
Tvad, Perhaps, but I think you will find there is a difference in the audio experience for folks who are trying to replicate what (they believe) is in the pits and grooves, which is really the only true goal for an 'audiophile', and those folks wh...
Power amp for ARC SP-6
ARC amps not needed, others can work just fine you only want to make sure they have an input impedence of 20K or more. Amp selection will depend on 1)Tpye of speakers you have and their power requirements, 2)your sonic preferences based on music t...
Cooling fans for tube amp
Ahall, FWIW on a 110v fan you can probably add a rheostat and reduce the speed of the fan to a point where you will not hear it at all and you will also minimize any vibrations it would transmit (at full speed) into the cabinet. At least these wer...
The importance of proper set-up
Durbin, You need a rocket scientist. A dumb suggestion - BTW I think the mineral oil is a very safe and potentially effective oil to use - go down to the skid row part of town and bum a 'needle' from a resident. Then, once you clean it out, extrac...
Can you imagine a world without vinyl?
Well I agree with the vinyl-o-philes. When great vinyl recordings and pressings are played back over a great system they absolutely destroy CD's. And this occurred so seldom (and I will honestly admit I lost a bit of interest in the music I had on...
The importance of proper set-up
Dumb question. Can you change the viscosity of the fluid in the damper? Would that help? FWIW, some years ago I had your problem with a 'normal arm' so I thought. Well I developed what I though was a subsonic problem due to cartridge/arm mismatch....
Bill Evans Village Vanguard 3CD set
I'm not aware of a re-mix which resolves this imaging issue. For me its just a minor annoyance you get used to. Helps if you don't sit in the sweet spot listening to 'audio'. Besides, hearing this gives you a lot more respect for great stereo prod...
how do you know a bad tube?
The simplest way is by simply switching tubes from left to right channel and vis a versa using a process of elimination. For example you have four tubes in a pre-amp. You move the two on the left to the right side and the reverse. Nothing changes....
The importance of proper set-up
Well, I'm not one of those mavens you are looking for but you sound lonely so what the hell. IMHO, fluid damping, just as putting a brush on the front of the stylus, should help out in smoothing warps, etc, in less than perfect records. You will p...
Bill Evans Village Vanguard 3CD set
All the time. That is one of the downsides of many jazz recordings made (mostly) in the late 50's and (occasionally) very early 60's. The art of proper recording was developing in that era. FWIW I recently bought some newish Van Gelder productions...
Are you at this point??
I feel that way every morning. By late in the afternoon I start thinking something can be improved. If I can just learn to pend my tendency to look for improvements 'til the next morning, or stop listening late in the afternoon, I'd probably be in...
The Best Midrange in the World Right Now
Well, IMHO, you need a 'musical' midrange in any system just to get your interest. Beyond that equal demands on other frequency ranges might well depend on the type of music you enjoy most. If you like voices dir-range is everything. Those little ...
6922 Tubes for Raysonic CD128
I liked Amperex Bugle Boys (made in Holland)in my 128. Warm natural bass with good extended highs. I've been intending to run some Seimans 7308's but I haven't yet. I would expect from this combo dynamics and bass with mid-range and high end clari...
Audiogon speaker wire gurus, please help me
OK, an unbiased opinion from someone who doesn't sell anything.IMHO IC's and speaker wire should be neutral and allow the electronic's signal to pass undistorted. A question for you to answer to yourself. How do you 'know' the cables in your syste...
Linbrook Sig Owners - In Room Bass Extension?
In my 19 x 13.5 x 9 ft room with the speakers and listenening positions into the room about 66" (triangulated) and referenced to flat (0db) at 1K and 200hz, mine are flat at 32hz, down about 6db at 25, and 10db at 20hz. Sound pretty good too! :-)
