Full range tower speakers with bass under $10k
* Philharmonic Phil 3, wait time as it’s built to order. * Salk SoundScape 8, also a wait time, but likely even longer, but it’s custom cabinet finishes/veneers (more exotic customization adds fees, they can be as high as $3000 upgrades). * Revel ...
Subwoofer info
Rythmik and HSU make better subs for the money in my opinion. SVS is still sold thru stores like BestBuy, so they have a dealer markup (of course they are a larger operation than HSU and Rythmik, so SVS’s production costs are whatnot are likely le...
RME ADI-2 vs M-DAC+ by Audiolab (other suggestions)
The RME you mentioned is going to be the best in terms of sound quality as well as havingvokume control. For a straight DAC, the SMSL D1 is a hair better, but the differences are likely not audible.
Benchmark 1, 2 & 3
Compare the Stereophile measurements.
Using an external word clock with Esoteric cd/sacd players
I should clarify, I genuinely meant that if you heard a difference, then it was money well spent. However, if someone doesn’t hear a difference (as there is no actual audible changing coming from your speakers), then they just wasted a bunch of mo...
Using an external word clock with Esoteric cd/sacd players
@dgarretson Right, because you are using your ears, which are magnitudes worse at judging sonic differences than measurement gear. Like I said, it’s all placebo, there is no audible differences; if you did hear a difference, then that was money w...
subwoofer amp with crossover/phase control
@zipost There is no universally correct polarity option, it’s all system dependent. The same directions apply, flip the switch until the sine wave is louder at the listening position. I’ve also never dealt with subs that need external amplificati...
Using an external word clock with Esoteric cd/sacd players
@folkfreak Any difference heard by using external clocks is placebo unless it’s like a $10 DAC. Even a Topping D10 (~$75) has a Jitter Test result of better than -125dB, better than dithered 16Bit. Vivaldi has a result of better than -130dB. To p...
Holo Audio Spring DAC LEVEL 3 Vs. iFi Audio Pro iDSD DAC and Music Streamer
How can you forget the Benchmark DAC 3? The SMSL SU-8 is also super close to the DAC3 at a considerably cheaper price point.  If you want to hear every nuance in your music, these are amazing devices.
subwoofer amp with crossover/phase control
@ricred1   The slope is to match the roll-off of your speakers. Ported and passive radiator speakers roll-off at 24dB/oct, sealed speakers at 12dB/oct.   After finding what frequency you want to cross over at (80Hz for instance), next you find the...
Why so many wilson alexias for sale
Because they are poorly made speakers, way too much energy in the top octave.
Using an external word clock with Esoteric cd/sacd players
Why not just use a good DAC? Any good DAC reduces jitter (clocks not synced) to well below audibility.
Digital improvements possible?
@lincnabby   MQA is lossy, it competes with MP3, impossible to be better than CD or higher.  People who boast about 96kHz or 192kHz have no clue what it even means. Firstly, we can’t hear that high. Secondly, most systems can’t even reproduce audi...
Digital improvements possible?
Unless your DAC stinks, there is 0 reason to go above 24Bit 44.1kHz (MQA and DSD are just marketing gimmicks), even regular CD quality (16Bit 44.1kHz) is good enough for 99% of use cases.   Room treatment is something hugely important that is ofte...
Looking for an excellent Subwoofer match for Celestion SL600 Speakers!
Budget?  Modes your gear have an RCA subwoofer output, or do you need speaker wire in/out?
