Topping Dacs D-50, DX-7, and DX7s @2psyop You make it seem like measurements don’t directly tell us how it sounds. If anything, the Benchmark sounding clinical (dead accurate, not forgiving) is a compliment. If you don’t wanna hear how your music actually sounds, then don’t buy a...
2.1 / 2.2 Request for Amp Suggestions Driver size has no correlation to being slopppy or tight, a Rythmik F18 (18”) is super tight, low distortion, etc. any subwoofers from HSU, PSA, SVS, Rythmik, and JTR are good. JL Audio makes good subs, but overpriced, a $2500 JL Audio sub perform...
2.1 / 2.2 Request for Amp Suggestions I would get real subwoofers, “complimentary woofers” is just silly, just asking for phase cancellations and comb filtering, plus they are inefficient and low-impedance, so just adding strain on any reasonably priced amp. HSU VTF-2 MK5 or a Rythmik...
Has this been settled? compression driver/horn vs cone speaker? There is no superior tech, only implementation. The JBL M2’s use compression driver for the tweeter and it’s a great speaker, whereas Revel uses a regular tweeter for their Salon2.
Schiit Bifrost vs. the original Peachtree Dac-it @n80 ASR measurements show no difference in performance using USB power nor the Anker. The D50 uses a standard 1amp 5v, so something like this will work. Again, won’t defend the decision to not include one.
Schiit Bifrost vs. the original Peachtree Dac-it @n80 It does take power over USB. But yes, odd they didn’t include a wall power cable. I know some owners use an Anker portable battery to power their’s (hey, it’s not as crazy as people using a Chord Mojo as a desktop DAC).
Schiit Bifrost vs. the original Peachtree Dac-it @2psyop Anyone who thinks a power cable makes any difference is sadly mistaken, any product that has a non-optimal power cord is few and far between and should be considered defective. The only caveat is if you live next to like a radio tower, wh...
Bookshelf speakers under $1000 NHT C3 with the current 30% off coupon. I find it pretty unlikely there is any other speaker out there at this price (talking new gear only) that is objectively as good. HomeTheaterHiFi has a review/measurements and Stereophile has a review/measur...
Schiit Bifrost vs. the original Peachtree Dac-it @kahlenz Yeah, that’s why I tried to stress that I’m talking about accurate playback. I want all my gear transparent, and add DSP to taste, rather than not add any DSP and try and mix and match gear that colors the sound on its own. Simply differ...
Schiit Bifrost vs. the original Peachtree Dac-it and even if we did how do you map the test results to a subjective listening experience? Thats super easy, if any distortion/non-linearity/errors/etc. are below established audibility tresholds, then it’ll be transparent. THD+N of -130dB vs -140dB...
Schiit Bifrost vs. the original Peachtree Dac-it @n80 I’m a person who wants accurate playback, I only want to hear the song as intended, so I also am very much so pro solid state over tubes, no matter how cool tubes look. The Yggy offers nothing in terms of performance for accurate playback ov...
SVS speakers (non-sub)? Decent for the money, not a steal but not stupidly overpriced. NHT is better and currently is 30% off for the holidays, I know (via forums) a handful of people who have ordered a pair of their C3’s. I’m not an ELAC fan, but I do like (most) or wha...
Speakers with the most detailed midrange? (non-ESL/planar) Revel F228Be
Schiit Bifrost vs. the original Peachtree Dac-it @coachpoconnor Even Schiit’s flagship DAC won’t be as accurate as the two I mentioned above that are much cheaper. Like I said, only their Modi 3 is worth buying.
Schiit Bifrost vs. the original Peachtree Dac-it Going off the Stereophile measurements, it’s a pretty good DAC except for the IMD, but in today’s market it would compete with the cream of the crop ~$175 DACs. The Topping D50 or SMSL SU-8 are both better than your current DAC by a good margin, b... |
