Best multi channel amp and processor good for 2 channel listening.
@auxinput That is because the slew is so fast, that it is not letting the amp continue to translate the DAC square step waveforms into true analog waveforms Squarewave measurements are common in tests, this is done for every Stereophile amp measu...
Preamp Choice... a hard call for me.
@aberyclark  One thing to take in mind, if still using a pre-amp, then the analog inputs need to be taken into question, as maybe they aren’t clean, so that even the best DAC in the world can’t sound better than the internal DAC was the analog sec...
Are DAC's overpriced?
@rbstehno Shrill sounding again is about emphasized treble. Analytical doesn’t mean cool, cool means cool. Analytical is the same as transparent, you can’t analyze something if the tool adds color. If you don’t wanna hear what your music/speakers...
Best multi channel amp and processor good for 2 channel listening.
Belles: Never heard of them, but quick research shows good performance at reasonable prices. Sim/Moon: Good performance but overpriced, same category as Boulder. Also, they focus on the wrong things, selling a >800W power amp for $42K is just ...
Best multi channel amp and processor good for 2 channel listening.
@maguiar What integrated amp are you talking about? The setup is simple, surround sound is Zone 1 from the processor and 2ch setup is Zone 2, this is a super simple feature something like the Marantz has. Power the surround sound speakers with a...
Setting up my subwoofer
Simple, RCA out from pre-amp into the sub, then adjust the sub’s crossover, volume, and phase. Finding the best crossover typically requires an SPL meter, but it can be done by ear. Finding the correct phase is easy to, but if you want me to detai...
Are DAC's overpriced?
@rbstehno   Also, if you like a cold/analytical sounding dac, get a benchmark.  A device can not be cold (emphasizes kids and treble; opposite of warm) and analytical (transparent, no color) at the same time. The Benchmark is indeed the latter.
A DAC that crushes price vs. performance ratio
@davehg Jitter out of the source components isn’t that great, which is why it’s good to have a DAC with good jitter reduction, and while the $80 DAC mentioned does, there are very expensive, poorly designed DACs that don’t perform as well. As pri...
Are DAC's overpriced?
@captbeaver  The P6 is good if you want that.
Going to try digital
I agree that the Bluesound Node2i ($500) is the best option (Vault 2i ($1200) if you want to rip CD’s).  It’s internal DAC is fine, though an external one would likely be welcomed. Depending on how much you want to spend:  * Schiit Modi 3 ($100)* ...
Are DAC's overpriced?
Massdrop Grace SDAC, Topping D30, Schiit Modi 3, Khadas Tone Board (can be used bare, but would advise using a case). All are excellent and are <$150. EDIT, seeing as your CD player pliekly only has digital coax or Toslink, then scratch off th...
Best multi channel amp and processor good for 2 channel listening.
@maguir  Don’t worry a single second about using something like the Marantz as your processor, it’s DAC is high quality and it’s pre-outs are high voltage and low distortion. Not really gonna gain any real benefit from using an audiophile grade st...
A DAC that crushes price vs. performance ratio
@davehg Tubes are where you can’t go off measurements, as it’s performsnce is influenced by the impedance of the speakers it’s hooked up to. @anthonymaw Jitter is pretty much a non-issue nowadays. Steve Nugent (@audioengr, owner of Empirical Au...
A DAC that crushes price vs. performance ratio
@steakster By introducing DSP circuitry from a different manufacturer that is entirely designed to alter the signal created by the source component, your argument for measurements is completely nullifiedNot sure how you came up with that. DSP is ...
A DAC that crushes price vs. performance ratio
@nonoise @teajay I’m stubborn to back down from my position as there are countless human trials showing that my position is valid. All your comments are dealing with what you believe or have experienced, which is invalid unless these comparisons...
