PS audio ultralink II dac distortion
@cincyjim Review and Measurements of Wyred4Sound DAC-2v2 SE DACWorse than the $120 Topping D30 or $100 Schiit Magni 3.  Oh, and if you notice, they sell a >$300 power supply as well, and it’s  worse than USB power. It’s clearly obvious now tha...
Kef Blade or Kef Blade Two for bigger room
@blueskywalker Simce that is based on frequency response and dynamics, they will be practically identical in terms of how good they are at low levels. My suggestion to demo the Vivid B1 Decade is still in effect. Besides also measureing well, it...
DAC Upgrade
@cleeds How does it not address the claim? Harman has done countless double-blind sessions (started by Toole), and he states/documents the better measured speaker wins every time, even regardless of room placement. Now, ideal bass and treble leve...
DAC Upgrade
@cleeds The studies/books/papers of Toole, Olive, etc. in regards to speakers/headphones. The study by this team of people as well as others showing that no one has 70% confidence or higher is differentiating CD vs 320Kbps MP3. The many AES pap...
DAC Upgrade
@cleeds The effort of others who have hundreds of international participants ranging in age/experience/sex and are pretty much always in agreement. I don’t have the money nor the time to buy dozens of equipment and setup level matched blind list...
DAC Upgrade
@cavy I have found that great measurements don’t always produce great sounding equipmentIt usually does when doing a double-blind session (and level-matched below clipping and quick switching). Measurements don’t mean squat when you have it in yo...
Kef Blade or Kef Blade Two for bigger room
The only differences are the side-firing woofers, so maybe the crossover isn’t optional due to them being larger.   The Blade and Blade 2 have the same bass response for +/-3dB, 40Hz, but the Blade states 28Hz at -6dB and the Blade 2 states 34Hz a...
Pass labs XA-160.8 monos - or -  Mark Levinson 536 monos for Magico's
Mark Levinson no question, more power with less IMD and better handling of swinging load impedances.
Bi-amping with integrated
It has a variable output, so if your speakers have dual binding posts, then yes.
Sticking with CD's for now
@elizabeth You are the one who stated my recommendations weren’t up to par for the CD player in question, based off price alone; then you go on to recommend a DAC that has 16x the noise+distortion.
Sticking with CD's for now
@elizabeth   If you can find any area where the two DACs I mentioned fall short, I’d love to hear it. I’d appreciate real descriptions and not “lacks breath”.
Confused State of affairs: CD player
Stick with what you have, the sound coming out of your speakers won’t be audibly different, and probably barely measureably different. With a good DAC, a $100 player sounds the same as a $50,000 transport.
DAC Upgrade
@georgehifi In NOS mode with the Holo Spring dac playing PCM RedBook, there is more body to the sound, and the treble has more transparent and noticeable harmonic extension to it. Making claims in regards to frequencies you can’t hear are we?http...
merits of allocating $ to 2.o channel vs 5.1
I would get a surround receiver just so you won’t be limited if you every want to add more channels. If it’s for more than a loveseat directly cemeteries, you will very much want a center channel. Surrounds can be $100, they don’t matter that muc...
Dutch & Dutch 8c
@d2girls The 8C offers a sub out with bass management, so you can add any subwoofer you like. DSP is mostly just changing output, as long as you aren’t doing anything crazy (such as boosting a high-Q dip by 20dB), it won’t sound off at all. Howe...
