Any Proac Supertower Owners Out There?
Thanks Genesis - It's the rubber part, outside of the paper cone, that's torn/repaired. Can that part be fixed?
What do you know about the Pro-Ac Subwoofer?????
continuing off the subject... I have proac supertowers and a REL stadium II and the combination is a no-brainer: easy to set up and seamless. The lowest Xover is 30 which is where I set it. Good luck
Updating my preamp.Frustrating..You Bet
In your price range, you could easily get a CAT SL1 mkIII. I auditioned about a half dozen preamps and the CAT was my favorite. It's reputation is well deserved. It is not excessively tube-y or overly dry, it's built like a tank, and really has no...
Audio and Wine?
I buy the wine for a restaurant -need I say more?
Miles Davis, extreme Jazz and the death of Jazz
check out Evan Parker, a british sax player, part of the 'free improvisation' movement (mostly european) from way back but who has recently matured into a truly innovative (and finally listenable) artist. Look for: Solar Wind, Breaths and Heartbea...
Cartridge Life
I've heard as little as 1500 hours if you're not using stylast... you might want to have it looked at to see if it has flat areas near the tip.
So how many people are using subwoofers
I added REL stadium IIs to my proac supertowers and it was about my favorite upgrade ever. It only adds - just use it at its lowest eq cutoff and at a moderate level. You'll hear stuff you never knew was there.
Best jazz either purchased or released in 2001
Miles Davis "In A Silent Way Sessions" - it's even available on vinyl from mosaic (but be prepared for tape hiss from the masters..)
Improving bass response
I'd say reconsider a subwoofer. Unless you buy kilobuck speakers, you just can't hit those frequencies. I have a REL stadium with proac supertowers and I'm only sorry it took me so long to stop listening to the anti-subwoofer people and just buy i...
Words From the Wise
1.have fun with the whole thing. In a sense hi-fi components are tools for enjoying music but they're also toys. when you take home that piece, you should be excited and happy (like a kid at xmas), not anxious and worried about how much $ you just...
Studio gear vs. Hi-Fi gear Is Hi-Fi a ripoff?
Aren't studio monitors designed to be listened to 'nearfield' (as opposed to at a distance)?
Tube reliability in amps
Find the amp whose sound you like, then contact the manufacturer to see which brand of tubes he recommends and which setting to bias at. Different brands in different amps perform differently. Also, the guys at the tube store (.com) have a lot of ...
Nick Drake: incredible sonics
It doesn't hurt that it's some of the best music ever recorded!
Tube question
If you love the sound of tubes (and make sure you do before getting into this), the occasional tube malfunction - more common in power amps than preamps - is easily outweighed by the positive. But bear in mind (as has been mentioned above), you're...
Where to start? sonically balanced system ..???
Someone once wrote that you need to find a dealer you can trust and I wholeheartedly agree. If your dealer won't let you take things home to try overnight (at least) then find another one. The dealer can also (if trustworthy) give you advice. Non ...
