How much does your system retail for? About 25k. Congratulations on this thread - it is, in my opinion, hands down the most amusing I've seen yet! It has activated everyone's sense of humor, especially the self-deprecating, and that's a good thing.
Speaker punishing bass go to www.anomalousrecords.com and get any of the following: helmir bjorgulfsson "the opposite" (3" cd) or "discreet journey" (same artist) or toshio tsunoda's "field recordings". Mind you, this is strange, experimental, electronic music (in the 1...
Transport Help Before you buy another transport, you might try using the monarchy DIP - you can buy it with a money back guarantee from audio advisor or pick up used ones here for about $125. It made a big difference in my digital front (marantz cd63 and theta p...
Speaker wire is it science or psychology Jeez, just find a way to listen to some different cables, decide what pulls your chain and enjoy the music! Who cares about the 'science'?
Best Copper IC under 200. There's a guy in massachusetts who's company is called 'virtual mode' - he always runs a little ad in the stereophile classifieds - his $100 IC is great: I prefer it to the other 4 or 5 cables I've used (which no doubt makes me almost a cable virg...
Is the Monarchy DIP effective? Audio advisor has a money-back guarantee - what do you have to lose? (I got the DIP for my Marantz CD63se/theta DAC and it was a dramatic improvement).
tube preamp with satisfying low end? I too am tube-bitten and have a CAT pre and Cary monoblocks. Total happiness, however... I listen to all types of music, including bizarre digitally generated electronic stuff with extreme low frequency information. How to get those low rumbles? T...
New tubes every year...or every five? ? In my experience, when a preamp needs a new tube, you'll know it: noise, tube 'rush' etc. Not subtle. Plus, don't you have access to a tube tester?
Best Tube Preamp under 2500? you might be able to get a CAT sl1 mkIII for that price. I compared it to the slp98 (see above) and while I could live with either, I prefer the neutrality of the CAT. The Cary is very tube-y, romantic etc.
Cary tubes? You should be aware that the slp98 is verrry tube-y! It's a gorgeous sounding unit but there are also more neutral-sounding pres out there. I auditioned the 98 but ultimately went with a CAT. I could've lived with the 98 though (easily).
cartridge suggestions w/ LP12 I had a glider on LP12/lvII, then upgraded to a H20. It was substantially better - definitely smoother, the wood comes through. I'm in the process of replacing that with the H2woodbody, which the guys at musical surroundings say is yet another ste...
Freak Me Out Check out www.anomalousrecords.com where you'll find the oddest music on the planet - I guarantee it! For starters, try 'Home, unspeakable' by Bernard Gunther. Extreme low end, extreme weirdness. You'll never be the same again. You'll redefine 'mu...
Best Zappa album we're only in it for the money
Please help a new tube user! don't forget - the new tubes will need burn-in. |
