What 4 or 5 sacds should I have? the stones' 'let it bleed' is very well engineered... it sounds like 5 guys in a room playing acoustic instruments, not a muddy wall of rock instruments
Mac gear "Slow" or others "Fast" if you have an accomadating dealer, he'll let you take gear home to audition for at least overnight. an extended listening session might give you a better sense of which sound YOU prefer. a good test is whether you end up listening for hours or if...
Audio Physics Avanti 3 Vs. Joseph RM33si I've heard that the AP design works best if set up along the long side of a rectangular room so your room could be a factor here...
Linn LP12......That good?? as weiserb says, the lingo upgrade is HUGE - I auditioned 2 LP12s side by side, one with lingo and one without, and the lingo sounded like it added at least half an octave of bass. if you decide to go for the LP12, GET THE LINGO!
What does EMI or RFI sound like? RFI (radio freq. interference?) means that you hear radio stations through your speakers - your system (interconnects usually I believe) act as an antenna. Not sure about EMI
Reliability of Cary Audio Products I've owned 3 different Cary products. 2 never malfunctioned at all. My SLAM-100 monoblocks blew a ton of fuses at which point the dealer changed a resistor or something (for free). A capacitor went after a few years, at which point I upgraded to t...
Break in period for tube amp. How long? power tubes should be allowed about 100 hours - but "awful"? it shouldn't be THAT bad.
Whats the best sampling for A do D to CD I've been using a Digidesign Mbox interface (protools software) with my iMac laptop. I assume you're talking about recording from an analog source (LPs?). I've had good results recording at 24bit/48khz - wav. files - , then converting ('bouncing t...
Can I run my CD Player through a Phono Preamp? bad idea. the phono pre does a kind of EQ on the signal, boosting some frequencies. you will have seriously distorted sound.
rel with monoblocks I have a stadium II hooked up to two Cary Slam-100's and there's no problem. Some posters have said that two subs are better than one - and I have no reason to not believe them - but if you don't have sub set overly high and you're not sitting rig...
Indian Sitar Stuff unfortunately ebay is the best place to find the out of print sitar LPs, and especially unfortunately, the best ones (Vilayat Khan on Indian EMI) are very sought-after and can go for big bucks if they're mint. I am a big Indian music fan (and stud...
What's the funniest song you ever heard? Big Bottom by Spinal Tap or The Spam Song by Monty Python
What sonic improvements with a high end pre-amp the tube-rolling point is worth emphasizing: if you haven't played around with NOS in both your pre and power, you're missing out on potential huge sound differences. a tech guy once said to me that the sound of tube gear is mostly a factor of the...
Favorite Lesser Known Sax Players John Gilmore (Sun Ra's sax player), Roscoe Mitchell & Joseph Jarman (Art Ensemble of Chicago) are all top notch. For more traditional sax, check out Sonny Criss
Which turntable should I keep? you might want to change cartridges before playing your lps - it the cartridge is worn and/or the tracking force is too hight you could damage the lps |
