How do I know what my system's
You could buy a pretty nice iPod for a couple thousand! Just kidding. However, I did notice a lack of analog. You could add a nice TT and phono stage. Otherwise, I'd keep it like it is and buy music or go see some live. A couple thousand...eat, dr...
What' s the life span of power surge protections?
I expect my Brickwall to last forever. There are no MOV's.
A turntable around $250?
Tvad-No idea. On GA 312, it's a manual TT except the arm cues up at the end with, what looks like a rocker switch. I was told (maybe incorrectly) there's a fluid involved with the switch. All I know is that the arm wouldn't stay cued up. After 17 ...
A turntable around $250?
Had and used a Phillips GA 312 for about 17 years. It still worked fine but the cueing fluid was gone and I traded up to an LP12. I used a number of Stantons with it.
Marantz or NAD
I had a Marantz SR-19 in my home theater. My wife and I truly loved the sound. The ONLY reason I currently use a B&K is because I wanted 7.1 with bass mgmnt amd Marantz didn't offer it at the time. Don't get me wrong, the B&K is terrific a...
Point of diminishing returns
Yea Barry. That is the most easy to understand explanation. I knew there was a simpler answer to a complex question. Just as the others, it's not definitive, but a great illustration just the same.
Point of diminishing returns
Drubin-It sure was fun to read though. ;)
Point of diminishing returns
I read Drubin's explanation real fast and my head twisted off my shoulders and landed across the room. I went over, picked it up, put it back where it once was and came back to re-read the post slower. I'm still not sure I understand...oh well.
Lifting speaker cables
Maybe they make a difference, I don't know. However, I'll ask you to look at the pictures from various audio shows (CES). How many of the mfgr's are using cable lifters when showcasing their equipment? All, some, none, few? I don't know if Dave Wi...
Has anyone had good experiences with trading?
I've also had some successful trades. It usually entails more phone time though.
Best amp for Avalon Symbol
I heard the Symbols with a BAT integrated. I liked the sound. I had to walk right up to the speakers to tell if they were playing, they disappear so well.
Make fun of me...I destroyed my amplifier. ID10T.
Randy Young does my vintage work and he lives in Clinton, Tenn. He goes by the name "Ezekiel" here on Audiogon. Very nice and honest guy, you might contact him.
Marantz 2275
Contact audiogon member "Ezekiel".
Need a Sub Cable...
I wouldn't go too esoteric here. As mentioned, it needs to do a couple of things competently. If a cable is being marketed as a "subwoofer" specific cable, IMO you'll pay extra. I've tried numerous cables for this application and found the MAS Gra...
do copper, silver & gold cables sound different ?
Thanks Metro for clearing things up. I didn't necessarily associate "hybrid" with alloy. The companies I mentioned aren't specific about what metals constitute their specific alloy.
