do copper, silver & gold cables sound different ?
Then there's the group of cables made from an alloy. Van den Hul, JPS, Synergistic Research, etc.
vintage integrated
There are a number of reputable people who upgrade/refurb vintage equipment and sell them for fair prices. I bought my HK730 from member "Ezekiel" aka Randy Young. Audio Classics is another place and there are others. There were quite a few terrif...
How should I build a system around my speakers?
Given the info you provided, you just might want to consider a HK 3480. I think I saw one here on Audiogon a couple of days ago. No matter if it's here or not, it's under $500 new and should serve any purpose you might need. It has plenty of power...
Herbie Hancock & Chick Corea
Back in the day, the one to own was "Headhunters".
Is Direct Drive Really Better?
I'll chip in a bit here. I've been using an LP12. It was enjoyable even though it wasn't maxed out. I now use a Mitsubishi LT-30, which is both DD and with a linear tonearm. The Linn provided a more spacious soundstage and great rhythm (toe-tappin...
Another Dealer sets the Bar LOW
I'm not sure there's a customer service isuue here either. It was an adult choice/transaction with unspoken expectations from the buyer attatched. I don't expect others to fix my mistakes. It's called personal accountability.
which cowboy junkies cd?
The Trinity Sessions.
To all analogers: check this out
Thanks Up for again taking something to the next level and providing the actual link.
Signal, Guerilla, etc. better than Radio Shack IC?
There is a tangible difference and a possible perceptual difference. As far as tangible, if you hold Signal Cable and RS in your hands, you can see/feel the better parts and build with the Signal Cable. As far as sonically, this is where perceptio...
How many systems ya got? and are they different
Good morning Up. I've got two different systems, one HT and one analog. It's hard to compare because they serve different purposes. Are you asking for retail cost when new or price paid (there could be a 40-60% difference)? Also mt HT has mostly n...
Tonearm Tracking Woes
I also have a TT with a linear tracking arm, although it's a vintage one. Perhaps you could lower the arm until the sibilance is at a minimum but you still have the detail and soundstage. I use a Grado gold, which easily mistracks if setup isn't p...
Let's add a Spell Check to Audiogon
Nope, I'm against it, it lends itself to complacency. The intellectual workout I get attempting to interpret some threads/posts is valuable to keep my mind sharp as a banana. ;}
Please help with interconnects
I second the Vampire wire, especially since they have some of the best connectors available, although SD gave some great suggestions. I would simply throw Outlaw cables into the mix, they are also continuos cast copper at very reasonable prices.
Demo/Used- what would you prefer?
Demo is the first choice if budget allows, then used after lots of research.
Just getting into mid-fi need advice
Buying speakers used is more risky but not necessarily because of the sellers. Most of the shipping outfits (fedex, ups) seem to have some difficulty getting them from point A to point B without damage, especially if they are not being shipped in ...
