Help for me, money for you.
Usually when this stuff happens, something has changed. So what changed? Do you have autoupdate turned on? Did it do an update?  Before you do anything else, have you redone all connections, and of course "did you reboot?"  If you did get an upd...
HOW DID YOU END UP WITH YOUR DREAM SYSTEM?
@calvinj I enjoy my system every day! Listing right now as I type this.  Good sound is like a drug. You don't know what you are missing until you try it, then you get hooked and want more.  Every time something gets changed for the better, just w...
Analog invites you to turn up the volume
Think I tend to do the same thing. Crank up vinyl, not so much when streaming.  At times streaming does have more detail, more of everything. But it can almost sound fake, at times compressed, of course fatiguing.  Vinyl is like a warm blanket, ...
Room is way too bright.
I feel your pain! My listening room has 2 4x10 floor to ceiling windows, hardwood floors, and a stone wall at one end. It was bright. 1st reflection is the stone wall on one side, then an open doorway on the other side.  1. rugs, blankets over fu...
Starting my showroom again
That is a hard question to answer, are you just looking for validation or really asking? What else is in the town? What is the demographic? What are the income levels? House princes/sizes? What is the area's disposable income like? Is there a thr...
Why isn’t more detail always better?
Feel like we are talking about 3 different things.  1. Bloom 2. Overly bright systems 3. Overly detailed IMHO, they are totally separate, but can also be part of the same issue. My vintage system sounded great to me, my TT was the standout per...
Streamers and software
Not sure why so many people use Bluetooth, but also want the best signal with the best equipment. Bluetooth just killed your hi-rez experience. If you want the best sound use Q-connect or Tidal connect to your streamer.  What a unique world we li...
How do you decide what to listen to? Same old stuff?
For me, radio is on for my mornings, got a couple stations that I like. Mid-day is usually a couple of records, what ever moves me. For the evening, cooking dinner, or hanging out, put on a Tidal playlist. I really like Tidal's "My Mixes" or I use...
After 20 years, in the market for a power amp
Why not just fix your current amp? Or do you just want something new?  Will say MOSFET amps sound wonderful to me, have not had the chance to hear any high end Class D, but have not been all that impressed.
The end of physical media is neigh
Back in the day, I had a DVD collection around 1200, even had a picture binder with everything in it on the coffee table. This is back in the pre HDMI days, when Netflix did not stream, they sent you DVD's in the mail. It was so much fun to get th...
"Cleaning" Vinyl Makes It Worse Not Better!
First if after you "clean" a record it keeps leaving deposits on the needle, you did not clean said record. You just released some dirt. You might not be using enough fluid, letting it soak in enough, or removing enough of it after the final wipe....
HOW DID YOU END UP WITH YOUR DREAM SYSTEM?
Do any of us really have the end game dream system? At least for me, it's an endless upgrade. Every tweak leads to yet another tweak, or new part. Feel like our systems are just a moment in time, are always evolving.  My system started very modes...
It Was Twenty Years Ago Today!
Think I'm a little younger then some here.  For me "The Red Hot Chili Peppers" was a big band to see live in the early 90's. They played a small venue in Rode Island around 91, they had 2 opening bands with them. First was Smashing Pumpkins (bef...
Added a Schiit Freya+ to a Sansui 8080
Curious, why you added the Schiit Freya+ in the first place? What were you trying fix?  Vintage gear can sound just as good as new gear, it has to be maintained, and used correctly. Do you know if your Sansui has ever been recaped, or checked out...
What is the first thing you do when you unwrap a new vinyl record?
New records can be so dirty! The crap stiff paper sleeves are horrible!  Usually, unwrap, give it a good cleaning, use a good inner and outer sleeve.  Clean records always sounds better!! Plus a clean record doesn't have static. The needle doesn...
