Marantz vs. Arcam
@soix, thanks, wasn't planning on the purchase, was going to buy some room treatments for the 2ch room.  Thanks for the link, they do not have the 8015, only the Cinema 30, at $4500. Mine is basically the same thing, in a different chassis for le...
Marantz vs. Arcam
Just went through this, my old Marantz SR7010 has a short on the right channel terminal. It would shut off, and not turn on at random. Tried to pull it apart to fix the plug, but would have to disassemble the entire receiver to get at it. Decided ...
Shorting plugs
I'm a vintage audio guy, a lot of vintage stuff used to come with these as OEM especially for unused phono stages. Not sure they do as much with some of the newer all digital stuff. But they do help with analog setups.  What I have found is they ...
Would you still pay $10k or more for a turntable not full analog front end these days ?
I am happy with my streamer/dac box. With the right set up, It sounds great. Digital changed the music business. Record labels, musicians, etc  are not getting paid what the used to. So, why not keep the old medium alive. No one mentions how dist...
Looking for RCA cables from preamp to amp?
These are not fancy, just quality. They sounds just fine. Tried a few different cables on my systems, and these sounded just as good as some much more expensive cables.  https://www.bluejeanscable.com/index.htm Kind of think most cables in the $...
Apple Music streaming vs "direct" connection
My streamer will stream directly, so usually just do that. While I am an Apple guy, casting has a higher bitrate over Airplay.  IMHO, doing it direct sounds better. It also allows me to move around my house without any music dropping.

Out of curiosity, how much $$$ do you have invested each in your analog and streaming setups, and what are you using as a streaming service?  BTW, I can veryeasily tell the differences between various recordings of the same material in Qobuz, and...

From an investment standpoint, you are better off getting a turntable over a streamer. Streamers are not like computers, every 18 months a better one comes out. Not so much with turntables. Once you own a streamer, you just plug in and go, there r...
Do you belong more to souce first or to speakers first school of thought ?
Budget first then build Usually agree speakers are deciding factor on a lot. On my current system, I got KLH Model 5;s. They sounded great, plus also looked great with my vintage system. Good size, good sound, good looks, good price. Played with...
Cornwall IV vs. Volti Rival, Razz; Razz v. 1, 2, 3 -- what changed?
Don't have CW, but have Forte II's. I can tell you the cabinets are very high quality. They look like high quality furniture. Fit in perfectly with the furniture in my room.  Agree the horns can be a little forward, and fatiguing. There is also a...
ultrasound record cleaning machine damaged my records
get this, put one drop per gallon of water, it does not leave a residue or damage the record. Have cleaned about 600 records with it. The bottle might last my lifetime.  https://www.groovewasher.com/products/g-sonic-ultrasonic-concentrate
Stacking subwoofers
In my HT room, my subs were placed right besides the L/R speakers. It made placement of the L/R speakers hard, as it was taking up the entire wall, so I stacked both subs in the corner. To my surprise, the bass opened up, and was deeper. I had to ...
What is the Current Guidance on Stereo and AV Configurations
For HT the center channel does 80% of the work, it is extremely important.  Most higher end HT receivers will let you do zones, you can setup a HT setup, then have a 2ch on the other zone.  Mine is a 7.2.4 setup, all matching speakers. Movies ar...
ultrasound record cleaning machine damaged my records
I have a Hummingru machine, have used it on all my records, new old, and vintage. It has done nothing but clean them. Some vintage ones need a couple of rounds to get everything out. But there has been 0 damage done. You are more likely to damage ...
