Unexpectedly low volume with Schiit Saga + Vidar
The typical output voltage of most sources today, is about 2 volts. I use a passive unit ( no gain stage ), but my speakers are very high sensitivity, so passive gives me plenty of output and drive, between any amps I run, from my sources ( I pref...
Unexpectedly low volume with Schiit Saga + Vidar
Look into the Freya units, as they offer a gain stage ( 12 db I believe, which is gain = 4 ).
Unexpectedly low volume with Schiit Saga + Vidar
My understanding of the Saga +, it is a zero gain device, offering passive output, meaning, the source is driving the amplifier. You have a choice between passive, and passive with a buffer, used for driving longer cables, and helping with impedan...
Direct or Reflect ... What's your flavor
Eric......If I may......Bose 901s are not ambient reflectors, as 89% of their output was purposely sent to the back wall. Then you have speakers designed by Stewart Hegeman, and all of the manufacturers who use his design ( s ), ( look them up ). ...
Vertical bi amping Mcintosh MC275 and Rotel RB-1582 MkII
What you are describing to do is horizontal biamping ( passively ), and George, is correct. However, I feel both amplifiers have enough sound character differences between one another, that you may find a discontinuity in sq between the woofers an...
Home Theater Done Right: Millercarbon's System
Miller, you have much to say about many subjects. The way movie soundtracks are produced, you would need a minimum of 5 discreet channels, not including the subs. You do not have a decoder, a center channel, nor rear channels. You have an elaborat...
Home Theater Done Right: Millercarbon's System
Miller, I might be missing something here, but, if home theater is part of this package, other than the screen, I do not see it. As far as I can tell, I am with Ozzy on this. This is a 2 channel audio system, not a home theater system.
Truly High Efficiency, High Quality, Nearfield Usable, Affordable Speakers, Do They Exist?
A pair of Klipsch Heresy 3s will do the job very well. If out of the price range, a pair of series 2s would also be a good fit. I would be happy to discuss a few low cost modifications to get them to the next level. The natural bass roll off would...
Roger Waters-Amused to Death
mijostyn....+1........how about that explosion.......I enjoy all of RW's recordings, as it is an insight to who Waters is. EC on Hitchhiking is as wonderful. Just like audio gear, people enjoy different things, musically.
Can you tell me why I didn't like the Reference 3a MM's?
jgoldrick....to minimize the merry go round, I would take the advice, and try the speakers, in a more optimum position, especially for the purpose of hearing the problems a speaker will have, being 1 ft off, two reflecting surfaces ( the ceiling a...
'Short' horns
Many tweeters are designed around a short horn, often referred to as a flare, but the size, width, length, taper, shape, you know, all have to do with the design.
Would you donate a dollar to have these Members Review a Product?
Hiller......I am a bit insulted that I am not on your list, LOL.....reviews are to be taken, always, with a grain of salt. Always individualistic, always, with a difference of specific music, associated gear, rooms, etc. To review a product, thing...
Help hooking up a new amp
Do not use the Yamaha pre out....use the rec out....I thought we covered this on another post of yours ?
Considering going back to Solid State
No mention of your source ( s ). I went passive ( Luminous Audio Axiom II, Walker Mod, with remote, 3 in, 2 out ), and am listening to my cds and tuner in their full glory. Worth a try.
What creates the effortlessness in sound reproduction?
As geoffkait indicated, but, in two words, dynamic range. Every listener, should have some experience, to listen to live, unamplified music, to get an understanding of what dynamic range, really is. ( real musicians, in a real space ). I am speaki...
