HAVE CABLES EVER TAKEN YOUR SYSTEM FROM SOUNDING JUST OK TO SOUNDING GREAT? Experiences ?
My experience remains that cables do not totally transform a system (i.e., from bad to great) but, at least in my recent experience, they can certainly add that final touch that changes the sound from "something's still missing" to "nailed it!"   ...
What is the science behind audiophile fuses?
If you have a dedicated line to your amp, and your amp has say 6.3 amp fast blow fuses in it, would putting a low current 6 amp breaker in your panel do the same thing? Panel mount: The issue is that a magnetic breaker replacing a fuse needs t...
What is the science behind audiophile fuses?
Thanks @tksteingraber - the SDFB looks well made with heavy wire where necessary (except to the LED).  It appears to be a breaker with a small control board, likely for the automatic reset. If I were to use one, I might hard wire a pig tail power...
Crimping Furutech FP203R spades
Same answer as in June of 2020. It looks like the link from then expired but this is the same tool I linked previously and still use, and it is not too expensive. Amazon has quite a few different models here. Still using with those crimped FP203 s...
What is the science behind audiophile fuses?
@devinplombier  I for one am curious to find out how his experiment turns out I will be happy to share how my installation of the breakers turns out, but I probably wouldn't categorize this as an "experiment" since SMc Audio are currently and ...
Favorite Album Cover (picture or art on the cover)
There are so many good ones. One thing we lost in going from Albums to CDs and then streaming was the artistic, interesting, and sometimes shocking cover art. It just doesn’t have the same impact for me on a CD disc. There are so many good ones an...
Does You Subwoofer Settings ??
Just reading through this and noticed a mistake in my post - I meant lowering the crossover frequency, as pointed out by @carlsbad2
What is the science behind audiophile fuses?
When my amps were finished in 2020, SMc Audio had begun doing away with power switches (mine have none) but it wasn’t until a year or two later that they found magnetic breakers that they were comfortable with using to replace fuses.  Apparently t...
Does You Subwoofer Settings ??
IMO, you have already received good advice on this thread. In my case, with two large Aerial SW-12 subs, I would invoke the 80/20 rule and say that they sound just about optimum on about 80 percent of tracks that I listen to. However, I have them ...
What is the science behind audiophile fuses?
@carlsbad2 - Have you experimented with whether different fuse replacement slugs make a sonic difference? I ask because I have a solution coming that will allow me to replace the 10A fuses in my monoblocks, so I was looking at options to replace t...
What is the science behind audiophile fuses?
@carlsbad2 "So SDFB, designed and built one and did a very nice job." In our world, $400 for "a very nice job" on something that is actually useful should probably be considered a bargain. Even if I find the right breaker, finding/buying a sui...
What is the science behind audiophile fuses?
"What is the science behind audiophile fuses?" Going back over this entire year and a half old thread, I cannot find where the OP’s original question has been answered. Since, I do not plan on going sluggo commando, or paying hundreds of dolla...
DIY Spekon Cable For Rel
I have never owned a REL sub - these must be speaker cables.  My comments assumed line level cables.
DIY Spekon Cable For Rel
I agree with @oberoniaomnia - trust REL and use the stock cable. If this is a line level signal then 24 awg is quite typical and sufficient. If you don’t use the REL cable, I would recommended soldering SpeakON connectors to any reputable bulk sh...
What is the science behind audiophile fuses?
@thecarpathian - No worries at all, it is a legitimate question. Aside from code issues, one reason is that a line from the panel is in most cases powering multiple components/devices all of which are probably rated for less than the 20 or 15 amps...
