Dumb question......why do you need a preamp?
Sometimes, AI can be your friend: An integrated amplifier increases the strength of electrical signals to reproduce sound.  It combines a preamp, power amp, and other functions into a single unit.  IOW, an integrated amplifier already includes...
Grimm MU2 Experience
@mclinnguy - It seems the HFK reviewer appreciates the sound of the MU2 primarily for its streamer (i.e., Roon endpoint) and DAC capabilities, and then as a preamp, but he noticed improved bass and a richer sounding presentation after inserting hi...
Anyone replace the springs of a Nobsound footer?
If considering other options, I replaced the springs under my speakers with the larger size of these in the front and use the next size down in the back. Plenty of sizes to match the weight of whatever you are supporting. Platinum silicone elasto...
Anyone replace the springs of a Nobsound footer?
Agree with @carlsbad2 and @audphile1 - easier to use more Nobsounds in the front.  You might get it done with a single extra Nobsound in the front-center of each speaker, or by using two of them at each front corner.  If too stiff, you can just re...
Grimm MU2 Experience
I have some interest in the Grimm MU2, which apparently serves the roles of: Server/Roon core Streamer/Roon endpoint DAC Analog preamp Can users explain whether they have tried and found any sonic benefits (or not) to: Using a separate ...
I am checking out these DAC's for my system
@danager  "I own the MOJO X SE and the USB input is really, really good.  Knowing what I do now the MOJO Y AM would have saved me some money and more than likely performed just as well" I am admittedly behind the times on television audio conn...
Fiber or Eithenet
I noticed no reliably discernable difference and compared them side-by-side more than a few times.  I am using fiber mainly because that is what my Sig Rendu SE accepts, and maybe a little because from a technology standpoint having zero chance of...
Subs?
IMO, too much money is spent on main speakers that try to accomplish too much with respect to quality and quantity of bass.  Too often the result is boomy, ill-defined bass unless you spend a lot of money to get it right.  Your 804s are well-suite...
Six DAC Comparison
@brbrock - Mojo Audio Mystique Y AM ($4,999) is in the house and playing music.  I don't know if I will go into the depth in writing about it that I did with the others but, it sounds pretty darn good right out of the gate.  I basically transition...
Whats playing on your system today?
SRV - Rivera Paradise, and much more… So disappointed I only saw him play once, onstage with EC for two songs.  He is definitely missed but his music continues to provide joy!
What is the science behind audiophile fuses?
I wonder if this ABC-30-R fuse would be just as effective as a slug operationally and sonically?  This ceramic case fuse is 3x the capacity of the big 10A fuses in my amps and I suspect would be no more restrictive than the wiring connected to the...
DDC Comparisons
I previously owned the Hermes and now the Singxer SU-6 (with a 9V LPS). The Hermes I had was glitchy and I couldn’t make it reliably work in my system. The Singxer does not audibly/significantly change the sound, either for the better or worse, bu...
HAVE CABLES EVER TAKEN YOUR SYSTEM FROM SOUNDING JUST OK TO SOUNDING GREAT? Experiences ?
My experience remains that cables do not totally transform a system (i.e., from bad to great) but, at least in my recent experience, they can certainly add that final touch that changes the sound from "something's still missing" to "nailed it!"   ...
What is the science behind audiophile fuses?
If you have a dedicated line to your amp, and your amp has say 6.3 amp fast blow fuses in it, would putting a low current 6 amp breaker in your panel do the same thing? Panel mount: The issue is that a magnetic breaker replacing a fuse needs t...
What is the science behind audiophile fuses?
Thanks @tksteingraber - the SDFB looks well made with heavy wire where necessary (except to the LED).  It appears to be a breaker with a small control board, likely for the automatic reset. If I were to use one, I might hard wire a pig tail power...
