What's the best and/or favorite piece of equipment you've owned? And do you still own it?
SOTA Sapphire w/MMT arm.  I got it used in 1987.  I've changed &  upgraded & cross-graded everything else in my system more that a dozen times, but I've never felt the desire to change my SOTA.  Still love it today, and I'm always excited ...
Any Members Tried the Audio Interface CST-80 SUT?
Adding to this old thread......I've owned the CST-80 since 1988... got it used for I think $160.  It's the only SUT I've ever owned and always wondered where it ranked in overall quality of SUTs.  Based on what i'm reading here, it's in the 500-10...
Amp repair cost — is this right?
I had my 1990 Nakamichi PA-7A-II recapped by Jon Soderberg (a threshold stasis expert) and it cost me $1400 +ship!  The amp is worth only about $1k used, but I'm the original owner of this mint condition amp.  The amp came back absolutely transfor...
A real "wake up call" available to most....High End Audio vs. Mainstream......
I have bought and sold many decent things on Craigslist, but it's true that there's LOTS of GARBAGE on it.  I do wish it had better categories and search engine.  I recently sold a couple music instruments and amazingly sold them in 3 days, and no...
Tidal MQA vs Qobuz hi-res
I’m brand new to streaming. Just got Tidal and Node2i 4 days ago, and i’m in the "comparing to CDs & LPs" phase. I’m noticing a few things. The albums on Tidal are sometimes EXACTLY the same as the CD. But sometimes they are the same master, b...
Can I use the Tidal app for streaming with node 2 without Bluesound app?
Uggghh.... I'm sitting here just now learning how to use my new Node 2i, and coming to that same realization, that i CANNOT play the Tidal app through the Node 2i, which is kind of exactly what i bought it for.  So what the heck does Tidal expect ...
Best options for active speakers $4k or below?
If you like the idea of extreme clarity, resolution, and dynamics, I too recommend trying the ADAM S2V's.... I've got the S3H's, which are 3-ways.  They have a digital crossover, and parametric EQ available to you, if that appeals to you.  Many au...
What other hobby...
You can still appreciate great audio while pursuing any of your other stupid hobbies!!
Why are there so many wooden speakers?
The REASON to use wood is because any other option is WAY more expensive!   Sure other materials are used... and if you want them, you are quite free to pay for them!  I have built 2 pairs of identical speakers (using 8" Tannoy concentric drivers)...
What do/did you do for a living?
I fly satellites.... for 34 years now!  Official job title is Orbital Analyst.  I've been an audio nut since my early teens.  In hindsight, I wish i'd have gone into audio engineering.
Why Don't More People Into Music Reproduction At Home Play Around With Musical Instruments
I understand the OP's question, and I see it as literally opposite activities.  As opposite as INput and OUTput.   Listening to music is input to your system.  Making music is a creative endeavor, which is OUTPUT from your system.  Someone earlier...
Loudness - Why has the industry stopped producing amplifiers with this feature any longer?
I hate people who hate tone controls! Not because I disagree with them, but because they have ruined the audio world for the rest of us. They proclaim Tone Controls = BAD!! Ummm... but there’s this thing they invented call a SWITCH..... and you an...
Wow an old album that rocked your world
I pulled out my original issue The Clash - Combat Rock to look for one song, and I ended up playing the whole album.  This is well-produced audiophile punk!  I had forgotten how huge and energetic this record was.
Subwoofers - Front Firing or Down Firing - Which Sounds Best?
I have a down firing woofer that I can just lay on its side, and experiment with positioning.  I've found that facing it forward helps it blend just a bit better with the mains, but I keep it pointed down for aesthetics.  While I doubt the phase m...
Why do you think Bi-Wiring improves the sound ?
First Hand Experience: I’ve owned my B&W 801-S2’s for over 25 years, and have tried on 3 separate occasions to "improve" them with bi-wiring. It seems that about every 10 years I need to re-prove it to myself. Each time, the resulting sound wa...
