Ortofon Cadenza vs. old Ortofon MC30 Super2 ?
Ramon70,   Do you feel that you like your Quintet Black better than your old MC30?My retip experience of an old cart was not good.  I had an old MC20 retipped by Soundsmith with a RUBY cantilever.   When I got it back, it was amazing for about 6 m...
Lack of Female Representation
I’m noticing a big change in an associated field... Music Production. As an audio engineer/hobbyist, I notice many more women getting into audio & video production, and rock bands. Just look at YouTube and you’ll see amazing women drummers and...
Magico compared to Tannoy
Radically different from each other.... both great... The world is big enough for both to prosper.  Sadly my house & wallet aren't big enough for me to own both.  I've had Tannoys for 20 years, but others too.  All speaker types have +'s and -...
6.5 vs 8 vs 10 woofer
I've got 4 pairs of full range speakers with dual 7"s, 10", 12" and 15" woofers.  Of these, the 15" Tannoys have the LEAST amount of bass. The ported 12's go the lowest, but the 10's are in a sealed cab, so they roll off more gently.  The dual 7's...
moving from house to an apartment.. goodbye 802D's
Pull the band-aid off quick!  The best thing for you to do is simply tell me where you live and when you will be away, and I will quietly sweep them away for you.  It's the only way to reduce your suffering.   No payment would be necessary... I wo...
I just bought a Steinway which sounds like a banjo.
I play and RECORD lots of electronic instruments and synthesizers. These sounds have "pitch, timbre, dynamics and spatiality"..... none of which are adjectives as you stated.  So, I too am at a total loss as to what you are talking about, and what...
members and their systems
You can afford decent audio from the money you save by not buying a boat.
CD or Streaming... am I missing out?
I just got my first streamer (Node2i) and Tidal about 6 months ago.  While I am enjoying the selection and music discovery, I cannot think of one time that I was simply blown away by the sound quality.  It's fine.... no complaints.... but I've not...
Would This Amp Be Worth The Cost?
Specs are like the ingredients list in a recipe. They are just the starting point.Give 3 different good chefs the same ingredients, and I guarantee you'll get 3 different tasting meals with 3 different presentations.
Trying to understand B&W’s trickle down strategy
I've got 30+yr old Matrix 801-S2's that I've tried to replace with many newer speakers, only to sell those and go back to the old 801's.  There's simply something just "right" about them that I love, and the low end works really well in my room.  ...
I nominate this company as building best speakers!
Not sure how you can make such a strong claim until you've lived with a speaker for awhile.  I fell in love with a pair of speakers at the dealer, only to find that I could not live with them in my room, for various reasons.  The showroom is NOT y...
New Audiophile going crazy
My first true audiophile speakers were those B&W 802 series80's, and I loved them!!  Very inefficient, but very smooth, neutral, and incredible imaging.... I actually bought them used in college in '86.  Even today, I think they still can be a...
Neil Young calls out Tidal
While I've never been a big fan of Neil's music, I love that he IS passionate about the final sound of his music.  Too many artists don't have control over the final sound, and are not thrilled with it, or simply don't care about it.  My experienc...
If you stream music from the internet, I can't recommend this more highly
Hiphiphan: "I don’t know anything about anything, but it made theoretical sense to me, it wasn’t a huge amount of money ($1,400)"  Wow...  This literal quote from the OP says it all for me.  Read it again and really think about it.   Let's break i...
What’s the benefit of placing speakers like this? (diagonally at the corner)
For those dismayed by the disjointed "look" of this setup, you could put an entertainment center type shelving unit diagonally in the corner.  It would create a false wall at the 45 deg angle, but would be symmetrical with the speakers.  Sonically...
