Do Tonearms need servicing
You must be thinking of last tango in Paris.
Tube amp crackle noise with pre-amp volume at zero.
Many tubes have a small amount of gas or material inside, forget what they call it but its to facilitate electron transfer. This material can condense in different places when the tube is cold. Then as the tube warms up as the little bits turn bac...

Pretty sure they're talking about a different kind of lube, lewm.
Cooling fan for tube amp?
Right. The amp itself needs no cooling fan. Plenty of air flow even with a shelf above it. Which that, if anything, is what could use the fan. The shelf above it. Even then only the bottom of the shelf. Heat dissipates from the shelf, air flows ar...
Seems tough to ensure only subwoofer is playing bass frequencies (& not the main speakers)
In this case, the passive woofers from the ported main speakers produce qualitatively different bass than the high powered sealed subwoofer. I'd prefer to let 1 or more subs deal with bass... and let the mains deal with the rest. A tough sell...
Subs for Treo CT
No crossover. Just add subs. Buy more, not bigger. Three pretty good subs is better than one really good sub, in other words. The key to really good bass is lots of subs spread around in different locations so that they all have different bass mod...
Perhaps a Stupid Question
I still have one of those, mine's a 75 Technics but same thing, hardwired and absolute crap. Between the IC and power cord its tough to say which is worse. These are not at all matched to the table. They are nothing more than a cheap wire with the...
Seems tough to ensure only subwoofer is playing bass frequencies (& not the main speakers)
Actually you do want the mains playing bass. The easiest and best way to get really good bass is with a lot of drivers in a lot of different locations. Do a search for distributed bass array, DBA, or swarm subwoofer system. The two main speakers h...
Analog or Digital and why?
Right. How could anyone really have anything to say until they've spent a million or so? Just one question. If I spend a hundred million and say digital is better does that carry more authority? Or less? What exactly is the proportionality of mone...
Tweaking the new Grado Timbre Sonata 3
Its not. Capacitance varies with interconnects. All this means is it will tend to not be sensitive to or fussy with interconnects.   A resistor can be soldered in series with the hot lead either inside the RCA or inside the phono stage. If its a b...
Tweaking the new Grado Timbre Sonata 3
What they recommend is what they recommend, not necessarily what you prefer. Your question: before I get too worried about this prior to complete break in, is will the highs “soften” up once broke in. Is what I answered. If you want a softer top ...
Are big subwoofers viable for 2 channel music?
What I been saying for over a year now. And Tim. And everyone with a DBA. Two more will be even better. What matters most with subs is how many, not which ones.
Syng research foundation cables
Pretty sure somewhere towards the end he says something about having Ted set him up with a full loom of Foundation and how much he likes it.
Syng research foundation cables
Check with klh, I believe he has a bunch of them in his system. This is Kemper.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vj_eRQ8TCAY
High Performance Audio - The End?
Personally, I don’t buy the “certain gear for certain music” approach. Only a system that can reproduce the impact of a great Rock band can, in my experience, do justice to a recording of a great symphony orchestra going full tilt playing Stra...
