Review on Bricasti Design M3 DAC
Regarding MQA, it is a combination of equalization and lossy compression. That some high-end manufacturers have resisted the pressure to sell it is not surprising.

Got it!

@nekoaudio - Granted, global trade changes have affected prices. But really, don't you think Veblen's theory also has played a part? How else to explain wires for $10k and so on?
Should people with no turntable or reel to reel be considered audiophiles?
Definitely not! They are too interested in music, and not enough in antiques.

@nekoaudio : Interesting point. I know that when some users were complaining about Auralic’s increases, the CEO pointed out that they only partially absorbed the cost of tariffs. On the other hand, it’s my impression that Bryston’s prices were stea...

Hearing about that makes me sad. We read all the time about the death of hifi in the US, and it’s blamed on iPods, the Internet, Spotify, and people’s shortened attention spans. But maybe it’s also the ramp-up of prices in audio. Even the less expe...
Review on Bricasti Design M3 DAC
I spent a lot of time in the Bricasti room at AXPONA 2019. For some reason, it was sparsely attended. They had great music playing in glorious sound, all at realistic and reasonable volumes. The room treatment they brought with them apparently all...
Advice/Warnings for a newbie
That Cello Palette Preamp is a choice piece of gear -- as you probably know. I owned one for about 10 years, and I’d consider it one of the top preamps ever made. I’ve never got anything like that as a hand-me-down. Give thanks! Most Cello preamps ...
Why not more dealers take trade ins?
A dealer here will sell your used item for you on Audiogon when you buy the replacement from them. They take the photos and place the ad. You get the funds, minus all Audiogon fees -- the dealer doesn't take a cut. The gear often sells for more wh...
Amps and Kimber 12tc. Big amps and room temperature.
Congratulations on fixing it.
How does adding a second subwoofer improve your systems SQ?
In my experience, bass traps do help, but they help mainly by controlling bass overhang at frequencies above 40 Hz -- and that’s the BIG traps. Trying to even bass response significantly with bass traps is a losing proposition. But in a room that ...
Low volume listening dynamics
I listen to music at a relatively low volume, but I still want the clarity to hear the details. I'll take a different tack from most of the posts here. The most important thing for clarity at low volume is the room. What is the background noise...
I found a free digital plugin that is worth sharing. digital to vinyl.
Sam,  I listened to a bit, and my impressions of the VST are that it adds some interchannel crosstalk -- which makes the hard panpotting in the recording less annoying and the sound more realistic -- and it also has also a little cut in the HF at ...
Used XLR recommendation for under $750
Why not get good pro cables now, instead of audiophile boutique cables? You may find (as many do) that they sound just as good -- or better -- at a small fraction of the cost.I recommend Mogami W2549 cable assembled with Neutrik gold XLRs by a pro...
How does adding a second subwoofer improve your systems SQ?
With two subs (or more), you often can get more even bass frequency response. You have to be willing to find the best spots for them.
