Class D amps that are superior to all or most?
@ricevs - I have only seen the blah Herb Reichert review of the LKV (says it beats an old class D amp and is somewhat competitive with a $3500 Rogue tube amp). Are there other reviews? This is the Herb Reichert who in the latest Stereophile sai...
Classical music listening... what is a better source High Rez or Vinyl?
There is far more repertoire on CD and HD, which to those deeply interested in music is often important. Also, if you are interested in what's happening in classical music today -- modern interpretations and/or compositions -- LP won't have that. ...
XLR cables, worth buying higher end?
I have been completely satisfied with balanced interconnects made with Mogami W2549 cable and Neutrik XLR connectors. These can be made up for you by many pro audio shops. Last time I looked, a pair would be considerably less than $100. You might ...
Analogue Productions announces May 21st release of ultimate Kind Of Blue LP
IMO: Music is a living, breathing art. This constant re-releasing of old stuff (no matter how good) is absurd fetishism. Instead of spending $125 on an LP of which one has multiple releases already, how about buying 10 CDs of jazz one hasn’t heard...
Anyone else uncomfortable with PayPal’s payment process?
That is not legit. It looks like you avoided a phishing scam. I'd advise you not ship anything until a check has cleared.
A different view of power cords
A similar experience: I tried a Shunyata power cord, with and without one of their conditioners. They sounded impressive at first, but after a while, the change struck me as hyped and un-natural.
Is $2,844 too much to pay for a fuse?
It's too much for *me* to pay for a fuse.
Bring my own preamp to an amp demo?
He's not a fan of PL, but is happy to work with me.Bring my preamp or not? I wouldn't expect a dealership to be a fan of a line they don't sell. Even leaving the economics aside, they may not have heard many of them.At your level of audio syste...
Cable Elevators
Rugs pick up the diffraction from the variance in moon phase and sun polarity. This diffraction is converted to electrical energy that is released and penetrates the insulation on your cables. It contributes to the imperceptible noise floor that d...
Small Footprint SS Power Amps
Many small-shop monoblocks using PuriFi or NCore modules would fit your description. Some well-known vendors are Nord in the UK, Apollon in Slovenia, and VTV in the US.These are class D but I would not rule them out for that reason. I replaced a m...
PS Audio Perfectwave vs Directstream DAC
They use the same Bridge, so the DAC in each will get the same signal. Still, the analog output of each box is a product of its respective DAC. Whatever the innate sound differences of the DACs may be, I'd expect them to affect the streaming input...
Long term audiophile seeks room acoustic experience...,
It’s the best money you can spend for sound improvement, IMO.ASC or GIK (manufacturers of acoustic treatment) will send you a proposed treatment plan for a small fee, refundable on your first order. It’s not a bad way to get started if you have no...
Townshend Audio F1 Fractal Speaker Cables
I believe that the cables in question have exceedingly low inductance and with it, very high capacitance. I would expect them to pass the HF better than most cables (due to the lack of series inductance in a low-impedance circuit), but also they h...
system/room equalized flat from 20 to 20k cps--is yours?
I can get mine flat to 20 kHz (without equalization in the treble). As @onhwy61 did, I found that unpleasant. Definitely, I prefer a cut starting around 7-8 kHz, possibly going down a little faster by 10 kHz.
$5k-$6K DACs w Roon?
CT? Their web site lists MA, but what do I know? :) Ah, Erik, my error, of course. Shirley, Massachusetts, it is. An hour from Connecticut.
