Adjusting the cueing mechanism on a Mørch tonearm
bdp24, yes, and the base is a classic. Most arms do not make provision for adjusting the overhang and different cartridges are different. You can compensate a little but it is never ideal. Son of a gun, a little grub screw. Go figure.
SOTA Cosmos and other models - lean sounding?
Gee wspohn, what do you use in your first system:)
Advice on SUT for Koetsu Rosewood - EAR MC-4, Slagle/EMIA, other
Ralph, Sowter offers different step up ratios and tells you what cartridge impedance range the transformers were designed for. Is that enough in and of itself to get you headed in the right direction? I have installed them in the past and as far a...
ESL57 vs ESL63
Wow, such diverging opinions. The 57s do not come into their own until they are stacked but without subwoofers they remain fragile and even with subwoofers they are not hard to blow. I was present for the destruction of two 57s in an HQD system. P...
Advice on SUT for Koetsu Rosewood - EAR MC-4, Slagle/EMIA, other
Ralph, you would think the transformers would be designed for a 47K load which is pretty standard for MM phono stages. If not 47K how would you figure out what it was? Just a meter? Also why the capacitor. Wouldn't just a resistor do? I know you m...
Adjusting the cueing mechanism on a Mørch tonearm
SH-T Eric, that really stinks. Are they paying for a new arm board? Doesn't  the arm come with a template? If you can't adjust the height for the thicker platter make a spacer. I had that problem with a Syrinx arm on a SOTA table. On SOTA tables t...
High output MC cartridges
The Zephyr was in your price range. The Grado is not humming because of your system. It is humming because it does not like your turntable. Get one with a DC motor or far outboard motor. I have zero experience with Soundsmith cartridges but plenty...
Searching for matching(?) Subwoofer solution
Tim,It all depends on the size of the room. A smaller room does not require as much driver and in this day and age anything can be equalized given enough power. Duke, I still really like the cylinder idea.Mike
Subwoofer recommendation for swarm
mkgus, a DSP designed for bass management will work fine. The subs can be placed anywhere in the room. I think against a wall or in a corner is best as this placement increases efficiency. I would put the two front subs in the front corners and th...
Moving Iron Carts or stick with LOMC
Hi Glenn, you can't go wrong with either cartridge. I am more familiar with the Grado. To call it midrange centric is a mistake. It is one of the best balanced cartridges on the market and tracks like a bandit. In being so balanced nothing hangs o...
Nasty Static on Vinyl
audiosaurusrex, get a set of these,  https://www.needledoctor.com/Artech-Premium-Phono-Cartridge-Clipsand have them soldered on correctly with silver solder then heat shrink the colors on. Better than crimping and more durable. Always install and...
To what level do phono cartridges age?
Actually moving magnet and iron cartridges should last as long as their styluses regardless of age. The problem with moving coil cartridges is that copper work hardens. The vibrations travel down the fine wire to the point were they are soldered t...
Why do YOU love Vinyl/or hate vinyl
rbstehno, I have not done anything illegal...yet. There is nothing the streaming services can do to prevent people from making analog recordings of streamed material and as long as people are not selling it to others I have absolutely no problem w...
Why do YOU love Vinyl/or hate vinyl
rbstehno, It all depends on how you do things. Once set up I go a decade or more between cartridges changes. I use a dust cover and a conductive sweep arm. My records never get dirty, I never have to clean them. All my records sound as good as the...
Why do YOU love Vinyl/or hate vinyl
Latitk, I have absolutely no problem with digital. My front end is entirely digital. Has been for 20 years!  My phono amp even runs through a Benchmark ADC. I buy high res files from HD Tracks and Acoustic Sounds on a weekly basis. But, I collect ...
