Best AES EBU dig cable for DCS Percell and Delius
By a mile, NBS Monitor 0. I use them with the Purcell and Elgar. Very expensive, but substantially better than the Orchids, which I had before them.
Suggestions for bare wood floor resonance control
Second time I sugested this on a thread today--put Aurios Pros under the speaker spikes. They dramatically cut down the floor-speaker interaction by floating the speakers. I've put them under everything in the system and can't imagine being withou...
Isolating speakers from hardwood floors
Sounds to me like the best thing you can possibly do is put Aurios Pros under the spikes. They give you almost all of the advantages of spiking, but float the speakers so there is some substantial limit on the floor-speaker interaction. They're ex...
Phono stage suggestions?
The Pass XONO is a truly great solid state unit with multiple MC settings, has no cool or etched quality, and is dead quiet. The new Lamm LP2 may be even better, if you like tubes, but has no internal adjustments for gain and loading. The Pass can...
SME V tonearm versus Rega tonearms on Michell Orbe
Koetsu cartridges work phenomenally well with the SME 5 tonearm, but I have only tried the combo on two SOTA turntables and then on an SME 20 table, which I am presently using. There certainly was no extra bass on any of those, but I don't know th...
NBS Audio Cables
NBS Monitor 0 is one of the two best cables I've ever used. (The other is Purist Dominus.) Lyric HiFi in New York is one of their dealers, and their isn't a more reliable dealer anywhere.
Looking for an upsampler-which one?
Ditto on the Purcell. It's fabulous, but only if your DAC can do at least 24/96; otherwise it's a waste.
Egglestonworks Isabel and Fonaine
I have not heard the Fontaines, but use the Isabels as rear channel speakers (Andras in front). I listened to the Isabels as front channel speakers for about 2-3 hours, driven by my front channel amps, Classe CAM-350 monoblocks (350 watts/channel)...
PRE and AMPS same brand ? or different brand?
Even at the very top of the market, it seems that manufacturers, while they always claim to be shooting for "neutrality"-- and may in fact be doing so-- nevertheless design to perfect their "house sound." The result can frequently be too much of a...
"Double" bi-amping a good idea?
I can't comment on your speaker-amp combination, but years ago I tried it with 2 pair of the original BEL 1001s and a pair of B & W 808s, and even thogh the speakers were quite efficient, there was a noticeable gain in clarity in the midrange ...
Speaker length vs. I/C length
Well, the science of it all is a bit confusing, but halving speaker cable length (e.g., 8 feet to 4 feet) will frequently make an audible difference, while doubling IC length (e.g., 1 meter to 2) will rarely have much effect, at least on balanced ...
CLASSE - Great amps or highly flawed?
I think there is an idea circulating that everything with a particular manufacturer's name on it sounds the same within a certain range as to price and size. It simply is not true. There are not only breakthroughs, but changes in direction, new de...
Sipkes or isolation devices better under speakers?
Aurios Pros are Vistek's biggest and most expensive audio product, about $200 apiece. They are essentially a 3 inch diameter flat bottom plate and curving top plate which move independently of each other, almost certainly with ball bearings betwee...
Sipkes or isolation devices better under speakers?
Please see my comments under the thread "Under speaker metal spikes...what is the point?" from last week. I set up my speakers (Eggleston Andras) as the manufacturer suggests--without screwing in the spikes until I was satisfied with the placement...
CLASSE - Great amps or highly flawed?
I have used a pair of Classe CAM 350 monoblocks for about a year. They are as good as any amps I have ever used, provide an enormous amount of power at a very reasonable price, can be lifted by one person, and outperform some highly respected amps...
