Is there a Solid State amp that can satisfy a SET guy? I got my Bakoon HPA-01 the other day. I am super happy with my Atmas but, man, the Bakoon thing is for real! It has musicality and incredible transparency, it has most of the great qualities of SS-detail, bass, dynamics with no harshness or glare....
Has anyone owned or heard the OMA SP-10R TT? Atma-Sphere used to make a modified Empire TT in a very heavy metal plinth. Ralph said that the best design uses a very heavy plinth. Think he still uses this DD TT.
Has anyone heard the SAT XD1 I thought the most interesting part of the SAT TT review was comparing it favorably to the OMA slate and cast iron TT.Has anyone heard that one?
Is there a Solid State amp that can satisfy a SET guy? Hey, thanks for being happy for me! Absolutely, through this thread and the advise given, I was successfully able to make the huge leap away from decades of SET-300B and 45. And being able to finally hear what my speakers are capable! It seems mos...
Preamp recommendation +1 Linear Tube Audio MICROZOTL. Seems you only need the 1 input. Tube musicality with SS detail. Get the NOS tube.Remote is also nice.
Is a balanced XLR cable inherently less critical than a single ended RCA one? IME with SE cables, they do make a big difference. It is not a stretch to say that the change in sound is akin to upgrading any component. I think I will invest in about a $1K used XLR cable.Don’t think I would hear any big change with a less expe...
Is there a Solid State amp that can satisfy a SET guy? Well, now I have been enjoying my Atma-Sphere M-60s for a few months. They are destination amps. Right away, I deeply knew that I would never go back to SETs! The Atmas have the sweet, natural sound of SET 300bs with the detail of a great SS amp.T...
Is it my amp or my speakers? I would agree that the Krell is bright and harsh. From everything I have heard, the Tektons are probably good.I would suggest looking on AG or USAmart for a used tube integrated. And roll the tubes to NOS. For $3k you can get a very nice one. And s...

Which tubes are the best? IME rolling tubes generally makes for a huge upgrade in the sound.Tube Depot is a decent source for good NOS. But I recently have bought and used several new Psvane (how the hell do you pronounce that!). They have introduced several lines of tubes...
Most hyped turntable, tonearm, and cartridge? I own a Woodsong 301 with an Ortophon R309D arm.In the process of setting up my new Triplanar SE arm and selling the Ortophon. The Ortophon is a nice period right match for the 301 but can’t compete with the performance of the Triplanar.I had been...
Power Conditioning / Surge Protection I have had excellent results with Shunyata Triton/Typhon. I was fortunate to get them for $4500 with 4 Shunyata power chords.Their retail price when up to $18k! The change was stunning. The change in noise floor is so dramatic that the entire pres...
Millercarbon's Mega Vibration Control Journey Hi Chuck,No wonder you like and use BDR.I am waiting for two vibration treatments: SRA VR platform for the TT and Stillpoints for the preamp.Interesting perspective is the Star Sound platforms. He says that draining vibration is important but reso...
Rockport owners. I have never owned Rockports but heard some at RMAF. The were my best sound at show.
Can an “audiophile” ever be satisfied with a system? I get to a point where the feeling is “how can it be any better?” and “good enough is good enough!”.Then I make an improvement like changing out a couple of tubes in the phono stage of my preamp for $25 NOS... the improvement is marked and signifi... |
